Art Club Has Classes and Open Studios Planned Before Year’s End

Drawing of trees by Ellen Wagner

Emily Grotta

Whether you love pastels, charcoal, or any other medium, you will be able to expand your skills and enjoy the fellowship and advice of fellow artists in the coming month.

Knowing that the holidays make it difficult to schedule time for classes, the Art Club offers a pared down schedule of offerings in November to December. However, multiple open studio days make it easy to “drop into” the Coyote Room at times that fit your schedule.

The classes include:

Drawing Trees with Pastels that Invoke Photography. Thursday, Nov. 2, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Ellen Wagner, an award-winning artist whose works are in the collection of several museums and universities, will teach how to use repetitive drawing patterns to create detailed paintings of diverse types of trees with pastels on sanded pastel paper boards. The class is for any level artist who can use the techniques taught in any medium. A supply list is online, or they can be purchased on the day of the class for $30. The class is $82 for members, $102 for nonmembers.

Charcoal Still LifeLearning to See. Nov. 3 and 4, 9 to 11 a.m. If you have wondered how to draw in charcoal without ending up with a mess, this class is for you! Anthon Galto, a well-known art teacher in the Greater Phoenix area, will teach the mechanics of charcoal drawing and the techniques to achieve the desired results. $76 for members, $96 for nonmembers.

Fun with Multimedia. Nov. 10 and 11, 9 a.m. to noon. Artists of all skill levels often run into problems achieving their desired results. Anthony Galto will provide one-on-one mentorship and critique to help you bring your project to the next level. $101 for members, $121 for nonmembers.

Fun with Multimedia. Dec. 9 and 16, 9 a.m. to noon. A repeat of the November class is planned.

Open Studio for Art Club members. Spread out your materials and projects in the Coyote Room where you can work in a supportive environment with other artists. Open studios are held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; however classes, the holiday schedule, and events planned in the Creative Arts Center will affect when the room is open. Please check the calendar.
