On Sunday, February 15 the Integrated Medical Services (IMS) Arizona Marathon will again be sweeping through our community. The PebbleCreek route will account for four miles of total 26.2 mile run. Everyone in PebbleCreek is encouraged to come out and watch this Parade of Runners and help cheer them on. Volunteers are also once again needed to monitor the route, help with traffic control and to make the runners welcome on our streets.
If you’ve ever participated in a marathon you know the extra adrenalin push you get from the crowd—especially if they have bells ringing and orange slices, donut holes or Jolly Ranchers to hand to you. “It would be a great motivator to see the PebbleCreek streets lined with a cheering crowd,” says Deborah Undhjem, IMS Arizona Marathon coordinator. And we can do that! The first racers are expected to enter the community at 7:30 a.m. that morning with the final runner likely to hit our gates by 9:00 a.m. They will enter via the Sarival Gate off Indian School, head up past the Tuscany Fitness Center and proceed down to the front gate. From there they will cross PebbleCreek Parkway, enter Eagle’s Nest and exit via the Bullard Gate by the bocce courts. What better way to spend a Sunday morning than watching and cheering on this parade of runners. Bring out your lawn chairs, bells and goodies and make it a festive experience for the runners and our community.
Interested in volunteering at the marathon? We need you to help at the water stations and to monitor road traffic. Whether you have an hour or the entire morning to assist, please contact Recreation Director Melissa Kallett at 623-935-6743 or via email at [email protected].
Let’s make the IMS Arizona Marathon an event to remember! Get your lawn chair, bells and orange slices ready. This is going to be a fun morning.
