AZ Chapter Q of the National T.T.T. Society held their Founder’s Day observance on April 18, 2019, at Mimi’s on Dysart Rd. in Goodyear, AZ. It is customary for our organization to honor the six women who initially established the society which began in 1911 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. The founding members determined the mission for the society within that year. The focus is providing a camping experience for qualified young girls who have finished the fourth grade. The girls are nominated based on recommendations from their teachers of the cooperating school.
AZ Chapter Q was installed by then-State President Shirley Schiever from Arizona Chapter J of Tucson (she was recently memorialized there). AZ Chapter Q has been very active within our PebbleCreek community since March of 2007. For the past several years we’ve worked with Heritage Elementary School, a chartered school within the Glendale School District. In the past four years, we’ve been able to send eight deserving fourth grade girls to Willow Springs, a Girl-Scout sponsored camp in the pines of Prescott, AZ. For each of these summers the girls have enjoyed the camping activities that included archery as the focus. Our reward is when the girls return from their camping experience with smiling faces and singing the songs they have learned at camp. It’s been the highlight for TTT members over the past twelve years and so worth the work it takes to get them to camp. Our annual Fashion Show and Luncheon that features the spring fashion lines from Dillard’s of Arrowhead has been our main fundraiser to raise the monies used to send girls to summer camp.
For those new to our community, the summer camping program is the main focus for the members of National TTT (Tri-T) Society. Each camper receives all necessary camping equipment: such as a sleeping bag, pillow, blanket, towels and washcloths, toiletries, a week’s worth of camping clothes plus a warm jacket and backpack which includes a flashlight and other necessities packed into a large duffle bag. All the items become theirs at the end of camp. Our chapter also pays all the fees of each girl for her week of camp.
Interested in being part of this working club that makes summer camp happen for a deserving young girl? You may contact our membership chairman, Georgie Wood, at 732-674-1249. Information about our organization is also available online at www.nationaltttsociety.org. We welcome new members from the PebbleCreek Community who want to experience the joy of working with these young girls and seeing the excitement build throughout the year as together we prepare for the summer camping experience.
