The PebbleCreek Democratic Club will host the creators and writers of the Arizona Agenda at their Dec. 7 club meeting to be held at Tuscany Falls Clubhouse. A new media outlet that provides in-depth reporting on politics and public policy issues, the Arizona Agenda (arizonaagenda.substack.com) is a daily political insider newsletter for political outsiders. The two longtime local journalists, Rachel Leingang and Hank Stephenson, are Arizona journalists whose work has, collectively, appeared in most of the state’s largest publications.
Their goal is to help Arizonans better understand the state’s political scene and how the government works, so they can make informed decisions and hold their leaders to account, focusing on the effects of political decisions and the people behind them. Most recently, the Arizona Agenda was named Phoenix’s best newsletter by the Phoenix New Times’ annual Best of Phoenix awards in 2022.
Rachel has covered government, politics, and higher education in Arizona since 2015, first at the Arizona Capitol Times, then The Arizona Republic, where she most recently wrote government accountability stories with an eye for those impacted and a focus on problem-solving. She has a master’s degree from Arizona State University, which is how she ended up here in 2012. Hank has written about Arizona for national outlets like The New York Times, Politico Magazine, and Columbia Journalism Review. But he’s a community reporter at heart. He was most recently editor and meme-maker at Yellow Sheet Report, a political tip-sheet and gossip rag. He has covered Arizona politics and government since 2008.
The club had a very busy November, wrapping up election activities and enjoying myriad social activities, including breakfasts, luncheons, and the Best of Broadway at the Phoenix Symphony with a joint dinner after. In addition to the club meeting on Dec. 7, one of the highlights of the year, the Winter Wonderland Dinner/Dance, will take place on Dec. 15 at the Tuscany Falls Ballroom.
Members of the club and their friends have been especially generous to those in need this year. Contributions for Agua Fria Food and Clothing Bank, Hope’s Closet, and the Phoenix Mission will continue through Dec. 15, but between Nov. 1 through 10, donations included 130 pounds of clothing to the Mission, 158 pounds of clothing and other goods to Hope’s Closet, and $2,200 in cash donations to Agua Fria. For more information on how to contribute, please check the club website at pcdemclub.org.
As always, club meetings are open to all. The social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m. Please join us. For more information on how to contribute, meetings and other events, please check the club website at pcdemclub.org.
