Feb. 12 was an awesome day for tennis and socializing. The afternoon started with a Round Robin arranged by competitive events director Aquine Jackson. Enthusiastic tennis club members vied for the coveted prizes of gift cards and gently used tennis balls as they dashed around the court, racking up personal wins for this early afternoon event. Players passionately pounced shot after shot as their competitors responded with zealous returns. This made for a wildly dynamic afternoon. Upon completing the event, our social director Joan Patchin served an array of very delectable appetizers and adult beverages to round out the day’s events.

The Round Robin was set up into five groups. The winners of each group were announced later in the afternoon.

The winners of Group 5 were Jeff Gillen for the men and Nancy Weber and Lynda Bailey for the women (tie). Group 4 winners were Dennis Carter for the men and Donna Gillen for the women. For group 3, Ric Sarro was crowned champion for the men, and Sally Ward was the female victor.  Group 2’s conqueror of the men was Steven Farley and Diane Bostock claimed the victory for the women. Lastly, Group 1 hailed Clifford Hopps as the winner for the men and Ann Lehman for the women.

The afternoon event turned out to be a little warmer than usual for a Saturday in February, but it was a very welcome treat. The fellowship enjoyed by all participants added to a special and enjoyable gathering. We are looking forward to the Club Championship to be held next month.
