Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group meeting April 18

Rayma Scalzo

Dr. Lucas Nyabero, PharmD of New Spring Pharmacy, will be our guest speaker at our Alzheimer’s Caregiver Discussion Group meeting on Saturday, April 18. Medication is a large part and a huge concern for both family caregivers and people suffering with either Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementias. Dr. Nyabero’s talk will focus on medications commonly prescribed. Learn what to expect when taking specific medications, both positive and side effects. Understand how over the counter medications can help, interfere or even be harmful when taking certain prescription medications. Dr. Nyabero will have a Q & A session following his presentation.

Our discussion group provides information, resources and comfort for those residents who are caring for loved ones who have Alzheimer’s disease. It is open to all caregivers who are caring for a loved one in the home, at a local care facility or out of state. The meetings are held on the third Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

We have another group, The Saturday Group that provides respite care for those having Alzheimer’s disease. It meets at a nearby location. This group allows the caregiver the opportunity and peace of mind to attend the discussion group. It is run by two PebbleCreek volunteers who have experience with Alzheimer’s disease. They want to make this time away as comfortable and stress free as possible. If your loved one is unable to participate in such a group, we may be able to arrange for someone to come to your house during the two hour meeting. Please RSVP by April 15 for either option.
