The Agua Fria High School (AFHS) District proudly announces the final group of students recognized through the Superintendent’s Academic Superstars Initiative, honoring scholars who earned a composite score of 28 or higher on the ACT college entrance exam. Achieving this distinction places students among the top performers nationwide and reflects strong skills in English, math, reading, and science, as well as the dedication and perseverance essential for college and future career success.
Emily Beckstead, Agua Fria
Emily Beckstead is an exceptional student at AFHS. She has completed a rigorous schedule of Advanced Placement courses and currently ranks 6th in her senior class with a 4.98 weighted GPA. As a junior, she earned a composite ACT score of 32. Beckstead is a respected leader on campus, known for offering thoughtful insights in class and approaching her studies with discipline and determination.
Cheyenne McKinney, Canyon View
Cheyenne McKinney has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement throughout her high school career, earning an ACT score of 32. She holds a 4.72 GPA and ranks in the top 10% of her class. An active member of the National Honor Society, she reflects a strong commitment to scholarship and service. McKinney is also involved in Theater Troupe and received the PSAT Recognition Award, further highlighting her well-rounded accomplishments and dedication to excellence.
Ozzy Rubino, Desert Edge
Ozzy Rubino represents the very best of the Desert Edge community through his commitment to academic excellence and leadership. Currently enrolled in six AP courses after completing six AP courses last year, he maintains a 4.83 GPA and earned a composite ACT score of 34. Rubino serves as Treasurer of the National Honor Society and President of the Plan-It Club, while also participating in the Innovation Club and the Gifted and Talented program. He volunteers his time leading a chemistry study group and supporting the FAFSA Challenge Team. Rubino has earned the New American University Scholarship at Arizona State University, where he plans to major in Medical Microbiology and pursue medical school.
Stella Waltman, Millennium
Stella Waltman earned a composite ACT score of 32, placing her in the 99th percentile in Arizona and the 97th percentile nationwide. She maintains a 5.12 weighted GPA and a 4.0 unweighted GPA and has been recognized as a 2025 AP Scholar with Distinction. An active member of the NHS, Band, and the Steppin’ Out Performing Arts Dance Team, she also served as Captain of the Millennium Color Guard. Her academic dedication and leadership reflect her well-rounded character and commitment to excellence.
Vansh Chokshi, Verrado
Vansh Chokshi, a senior at Verrado High School, earned a perfect ACT score of 36. Known for challenging himself with numerous AP courses, he consistently strives for excellence in and out of the classroom. Beyond academics, he enjoys painting, playing the piano, and reading, demonstrating a balanced pursuit of creativity and scholarship.
This final recognition honors students whose dedication, discipline, and perseverance exemplify the district’s commitment to high academic expectations and student success.
“I’m proud of myself because I feel like I put in a lot of work to prepare, and it means I will be able to get into more schools in my future,” said Emily Beckstead. “It also proves that kids with ADHD are just as smart and capable as anyone else.”
