A Rematch, Another Thriller

On July 18, the PebbleCreek Billiards Club (PCBC) journeyed to CantaMia (CM) for an 8-ball rematch following their thrilling encounter at PebbleCreek on July 11. Once again, the competition went down to the wire, with the outcome undecided until the final shot after over four hours of intense but friendly play.

The event featured two distinct formats. The first was a round-robin match, pitting four players from each club against one another in head-to-head 8-ball games. Each player faced every opponent twice, resulting in 32 games. CM secured a commanding 20-12 victory, mirroring their success from the previous week. CM’s Tom Juliano and Shane Korman led the charge, each dominating with six wins in their eight games. For PCBC, Lynn Warren and Dan Harris stood out, each earning four victories in their eight games.

The second match shifted to a ranked head-to-head format for five games (20 games total), with players paired based on their number of wins in the first match. PCBC’s Lynn Warren and Dan Harris shone brightly, with Lynn defeating Shane 4-1 and Dan toppling Tom by the same score.

PCBC jumped to a 4-0 lead early in the second match, but CantaMia battled back, narrowing PCBC’s lead to a razor-thin 10-9. The contest hinged on a dramatic final game between Lynn and Shane. After a tense exchange of shots, Shane’s long, slightly angled 8-ball attempt grazed the corner pocket but did not fall in. Seizing the moment, Lynn coolly pocketed his two remaining object balls and the 8-ball, securing a hard-fought victory for PCBC.

The close contest highlighted the strong rivalry between the CantaMia and PebbleCreek Billiards Clubs, with both teams enjoying the competitive spirit. They look forward to competing again next month.
