At the May 4 meeting of the Men’s Christian Fellowship, PebbleCreek resident Igor Shpudejko gave an excellent presentation on Israel: God’s Promised Land. Igor began by sharing how he became a Christian in the mid-seventies and has studied the Bible extensively by reading it completely each year for the last 30 years. He has also visited Israel twice.
Igor’s presentation consisted of three parts: (1) Why the Land of Israel is Important to God: His possession/apple of His eye; (2) How the Existence of Israel Reflects God’s Faithfulness and Sovereignty; and (3) God Has, Is and Will Use Israel to Judge the Nations. The content of parts one and three were supported by reference to many books, chapters and verses in the Bible. The second part was supported by history.
Part one began with Abram being commanded to go forth to the promised land and being told that he would be blessed. The land borders were identified and the Abrahamic Covenant was given. This land is to be an everlasting possession and the Israelites as His chosen people for the land.
Part two covered the history of immigrants from Russia and Eastern Europe. This migration to Israel began in 1839 and eventually Theodore Herzl, visionary founder or Israel, made the case for the Jewish State in 1890. Other important dates and events were presented such as May 14, 1948 when David Ben Gurion made the official proclamation of Israel statehood, the three wars between then and 1973 and through 2015.
Part three covered how Israel has been treated by other nations, how those nations will be treated in the future and how Israel will be restored and other nations judged.
The Men’s Christian Fellowship appreciated the detailed review of Israel’s history and God’s special relationship with Israel and its people.
The next regular meeting of the Men’ Christian Fellowship will be held the first Wednesday in October. More details will be forthcoming in September.
