PebbleCreek Singers presents “Rockin’ Rhythms”
Donna Swagger
Rockin’ Rhythms is coming your way soon! The PebbleCreek Singers, under the direction of Gail Kennedy, will perform their annual spring concert beginning Wednesday, April 27 and continuing through Saturday, April 30. All performances are at 7:00 p.m. in the Renaissance Theatre. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, April 2 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. in the theater. Tickets are $15 each and, for this concert only, individuals may purchase up to 10 tickets per person. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the Eagle’s Nest kiosk every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, April 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21 and 23, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m.
Rockin’ Rhythms features lively rock ‘n roll and classic pop numbers, easygoing ballads and inspirational songs, several time-tested standards with a jazz/swing beat, traditional gospel tunes, an enchanting Celtic lilt and a unique classical number with fanciful lyrics that might cause Beethoven to “plead the fifth”! Listen to the Music, a classic pop hit from the 70s, opens the concert and sets the tone for an evening of multi-rhythmical songs with widespread audience appeal! The Sopranos and Altos perform It’s the Girls, a salute to three of the super girl groups from the 60s. This medley of hits includes Be My Baby (The Ronettes), One Fine Day (The Chiffons) and Tell Him (The Exciters). Adding a little pop romance to the concert, the Tenors, Baritones and Basses give their rendition of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, a 1981 hit by Sting. This fun number with repetitive rhythms is one that guys love to sing and girls love to hear! The finale, I Sing Out, is a contemporary powerhouse that speaks of the strength of song – “From the very best part of who I am, I sing out!”
Come out and enjoy this upbeat show. Director Kennedy and the PC Singers look forward to seeing you there!
Noises Off: Auditions for a PC Players/EMCC co-production
Laurie Farquhar
It has been called “the funniest farce ever written” and PC Players, in collaboration with the Performing Arts department at Estrella Mountain Community College, is bringing Noises Off to local audiences in October.
Noises Off is a play within a play about a second rate theater troupe trying to put on a silly British sex farce. With lines forgotten, doors slamming and sardines flying, the play gives audiences a cheeky behind the scenes look at the chaos that ensues when inept actors deal with mediocre material on stage and dysfunctional relationships off stage.
PC Players and EMCC are co-sponsoring this production as part of a new working relationship that began last spring. And because the Renaissance Theatre will be closed for renovation this summer and fall, Noises Off will be staged at EMCC’s new Performing Arts Center. The play will run five nights from Tuesday, October 18 to Saturday, October 22.
Auditions for Noises Off will be held Tuesday, April 19 and Wednesday, April 20 in the Renaissance Theatre from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. They are also tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 25 at EMCC from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
