Laurie Farquhar

Auditions for ShowTime’s spring musical, Anything Goes, will be held in a couple of weeks and there is still time to reserve your spot to try out for one of the many hilarious roles.

Anything Goes is a Broadway classic filled with crazy shenanigans, mistaken identities, and unexpected romances. And with more than 20 speaking parts, there is likely one that fits you to a tee. The show runs six nights from April 5 through 10, 2027. Auditions will be Oct. 25, 26, 29, and 30.

Audition material and more details about the characters and the rehearsal schedule are now available at showtimeproductions.org.

If getting involved in a musical production is on your bucket list, then this show is for you. Audiences around the world have loved Anything Goes since its debut in 1934 and PebbleCreekers will too. Don’t let the S.S. American sail without you.

The Bitter End—the unassuming night club that has launched the careers of many famous performers.

“Where Legends Began” Tickets on Sale This Month

Laurie Farquhar

Imagine having an opportunity to be at a show featuring a young Lady Gaga. Or sitting just an arm’s length away from Peter, Paul and Mary as they perform together for the first time. Or listening to Bruce Springteen, before he was known as the Boss, as he does an hour-long solo performance to test his material. Obviously, that is not possible, but you may feel like you have traveled back to those heady days when ShowTime presents Where Legends Began next month.

Where Legends Began is an original musical revue about the history of New York City’s iconic night club, The Bitter End, and how so many of today’s famous performers started their careers in this unpretentious café in Greenwich Village. During the early days, The Bitter End was home to mostly folk singers but over the next 65 years, it transformed into a premier rock and roll venue.

Besides learning about what famous artists got their start at The Bitter End, you will also meet Paul Colby, the long-time owner of the club who almost single-handedly shaped the music scene by introducing so many up-and-coming singers and comedians, including Linda Ronstadt, Woody Allen, and Neil Diamond.

Where Legends Began runs six nights from Monday, Nov. 16 through Saturday, Nov. 21.

Tickets go on sale on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. online at www.pebblecreekhoa.org. Click on “Things to Do” and then “Ticket Sales.” All seats are only $20 and that includes the service fees. VISA and MasterCard are accepted.

If you need help with your purchase, please contact JoAnn Smyth at 623–466-8471 and she will be happy to help you over the phone.

Whether you love folk music from the 1960s or the pop rock of the ’80s, ’90s, and today, Where Legends Began is a must-see show featuring some of the most popular singers and musicians that jump-started their careers at The Bitter End. Even the famous “brick wall” will be there, creating that up-close-and-personal feeling of being in a small night club. It will be the perfect evening for traveling back in time.

PebbleCreek Open Mic Is Rich—with Talent!

Carrie Mataraza

Once every month on a Friday night, PebbleCreek Open Mic hosts a very special evening of performances: a variety of song, music, comedy and, every so often, even magic. Individual performers, along with a mix of vocal and musical groups, comprise the monthly lineup of PC folks who are there to have some fun and entertain their friends and neighbors. A wealth of PC talent is on display for the usually packed audiences and here’s the thing: it seems as if every day more people move into our community, eager to join in and share what they do.

It is awesome how many people living here have the spark that can light up an audience. Our PAC (Performing Arts Council) is proof of that. The PAC members represent the PC Players, ShowTime, PC Singers, and PC Musicians and over the years PAC has contributed both its theatrical expertise and the newest technical equipment that help to make the entertainment in our theater so professional. The Renaissance Theater shows are one of the prides of PebbleCreek life.

When you come to an Open Mic Night, you may recognize many of your favorite performers from PebbleCreek’s resident performance clubs as they sing, joke, and share their talents in a more informal setting. This fall, many of them will also appear onstage in PC Players’ comedy The Outsider in October, ShowTime’s Where Legends Began in November, and PC Singers’ concert It Must Be the Holiday Season in December. Talk about a classic triple threat of talent!

This month Open Mic Night is on Friday, Oct. 16 in the Eagle’s Nest (EN) Ballroom. The show starts at 6 p.m. You may want to come early to get your favorite seat. Cover charge is $5 and you may bring in take-out from the EN restaurant. A cash bar will also be available.

If you’d like to perform, come share your talent with a supportive and enthusiastic crowd! Just visit our website and sign up: sites.google.com/view/pebblecreekopenmic/home. All the information you need is there, and there is no rehearsal time involved.

We hope to see you this month behind the mic or in front of the stage. Make a note for Friday, Oct. 16, for open Mic Night in the Eagle’s Nest Ballroom. See you there!

Dan Ryan

Hello Aspiring Actors! As you look around PebbleCreek, you see many professionally developed plays, musicals, and concerts featuring talented neighbors. You might think you need to be a seasoned performer to get involved, but that is not the case.
