A Patriotic Unit 44 Men’s Lunch

On July 1, just days before our nation’s 250th birthday, eight members of Unit 44 donned their finest Stars and Stripes for a lively lunchtime gathering at the new, ultra-patriotic Mission BBQ in Goodyear. After a group photo, the men stood at attention with hands over their hearts at noon and proudly joined fellow customers and the restaurant staff in singing The Star-Spangled Banner. With appetites properly fueled, they lined up to order what many consider the West Valley’s best BBQ.
The food arrived promptly for everyone—except Walt Saal, who apparently ordered a meal so special it seemed the bovine had to be personally selected and prepared just for him. Sensing Walt’s growing hunger, hostess Renee went above and beyond, offering, “I’ll get you anything you want.” At that moment, someone at the table (who shall remain nameless) called out, “Don’t tell him THAT!”—triggering a wave of laughter. Adding to the day’s charm, Don Paxton—an unmistakable Canadian in both accent and heritage—showed up proudly wearing the Stars and Stripes on Canada Day (Fête du Canada), which is a nationwide federal statutory holiday in his home country.
Between hearty laughs and stories from the past month, the group caught up on the latest Unit 44 news, past travels, and upcoming travel plans. The conversation eventually turned to Dan Harris launching into a detailed explanation of how to find table games with the best odds in Las Vegas casinos. As the math grew denser and eyes began to glaze over, the group wisely decided it was time to head home.
Unit 46 Capri Room Happy Hour

Because Unit 46 is now recognized as an official PebbleCreek Club, we have access to the various meeting rooms at Tuscany Clubhouse. So, what do you do with this access? You have a party!
On June 19, a total of 22 Unit 46 neighbors got together in the Capri Room with only these instructions: No food, but, bring your own beverage. So, in that spirit, various special drinks were abundant and readily consumed. Then, almost magically, the conversations got louder followed by giggles, smiles, singing, laughs, dancing, and more ! (Of course, nothing illegal or too rowdy.)
Thanks to Vicky Ferraresi and Susan Gildea for organizing. The end result was another fun and successful Unit 46 Happy Hour!

Unit 46 Men “Thumbs Up” Breakfast

The third Wednesday of each month highlights Unit 46’s men getting together for an Eagle’s Nest Restaurant breakfast. On June 17, 10 neighbors enjoyed delicious eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, avocado toast, omelettes, etc. along with excellent conversation that only a bunch of old guys can produce. Of course, topics of discussion included managing the hot weather, visiting Buc-ee’s, upcoming (and previous) vacation trips, nagging health issues, status of favorite sports teams, etc.
As usual, another PebbleCreek good time was had by all!
Unit 54 Ladies’ Lunch

It was a wonderful opportunity on June 23 to escape the 112-degree heat warnings and see who’s been behind those Unit 54 closed front doors. Eagle’s Nest was accommodating to us with our own private dining area along with wonderful servers. The ladies in the picture include: Priscilla Wardlow, Mary Sabatello, MaryBeth Maines, Renee Rabe, Judy Vogt, Barb Dunson, Kathy Cheek, Patty Klepinger, Julie Kemper, Melissa Kallet, Debi Strada, Hiromi Bayshore, Lorraine Schultheiss. Pat Gray is missing in the photo. It was Patty Klepinger’s second 35th birthday, so a personal size cake with candles and singing “Happy Birthday” made for a fun outing.
Unit 61 June Ladies’ Lunch

On June 8, 13 women came together to enjoy delicious food, great conversation, and plenty of laughter at Postino Restaurant in Peoria. It was a perfect afternoon of friendship, sharing stories, and making new memories. The relaxed atmosphere and wonderful company made the luncheon a special occasion, reminding everyone how meaningful it is to spend time together and celebrate the friendships that make Unit 61 so special.
Unit 62A Smarty Pants Place Again!

The 10-member “Smarty Pants” trivia team proudly represented Unit 62A on June 17, putting their knowledge to the test against some tough competition. Their quick thinking, teamwork, and wide-ranging trivia expertise earned them an impressive second-place finish. Neighbors throughout Unit 62A are proud of this talented group for showcasing not only their intelligence but also their community spirit and camaraderie. Congratulations to the Smarty Pants team on a job well done. Those participating were Marilyn Coates, Tim and Dale Scanlon, Bruce and Lynn Banks, Jackie MacKenzie, Laurie Wyman, Judy Meservey, Tom MacKenzie, and Vic Coates photo bombing in the back with the DJ who witnessed the WIN!
Bunco Babes of Unit 62B

The ladies of Unit 62B are keeping cool this summer by continuing our monthly games of Bunco. The July game was highlighted by the birthday celebration of Colleen McClung (standing in the center with a birthday crown). Delicious cupcakes were provided by Linda Wainman. We are still enjoying our luncheons, Mah Jongg, book club, and card games all summer. Hot summer days are no problem for us! (Photo by Sy Rosenthal)
