The Cakebread Cellars story begins with two high school sweethearts from Oakland, a chance offer on a Rutherford ranch in 1972, and a $2,500 advance that turned into a Napa Valley winery. Fifty years and three generations later, the family is still here, still making wine for the table and the PebbleCreek Wine Club was fortunate to hear their story and serve their wines at our Melodies in May event. In addition to the five wines served from reception to dessert, the wine representative Steve Schwartz also brought along a special high end wine tasting offered during the reception. A nice surprise for everyone.
And speaking of surprises, against the backdrop of Howard Brodbeck’s acoustic guitar playing, came the news that a trip that had been donated to the Wine Club December Gala by Arnold Hickey Realty of a 7–day, Big Island of Hawaii, Pono Kai Resort vacation could not be used by the Gala winner and had been returned to the club for a redraw. In addition, a $1,000 airfare credit was part of the package. Imagine going to dinner and coming home with a Hawaiian holiday. That’s exactly what happened to Susan and Gregg Harris. Wow!
While the Wine Club can’t guarantee that level of excitement every month, we will be offering our dinners throughout the year. In July we will be celebrating the Red, White, and Blue 250th celebration of America with a selection of Washington state wines. August brings all things Italian, sign up on the website from July 24 to Aug. 3. September is the return of member favorite Caymus winery. Signup for that dinner will be Aug. 21 to Aug. 31. We’d love to have you join us.
