The PebbleCreek Genealogy Club (PCGC) next general meeting will be on Monday, April 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. PCGC meets the second Monday of each month in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse from 9 a.m. to noon. Guests are always welcome!
Dave Gaboury will present “Making the Most of Newspaper Research.” Dave is a resident of PebbleCreek and has been researching family history for 30 years. He specializes in French-Canadian ancestry and recently published a book on the 360-year history of all Gabourys that have lived in North America. He’s a past board member of the Heritage Education Commission in Moorhead, Minn., and a co-facilitator of the Canada SIG at the West Valley Genealogical Society in Youngtown, Ariz.
Coming Up: On May 11 we will hear about “Genealogy in Chaos: Getting and Staying Organized” by Robert Wilbanks. A man of “eclectic interests, a plethora of knowledge, and interesting skills and abilities” (see robertwilbanks.com), Mr. Willbanks has had his own genealogy business for 35 years, researching for clients, consulting, teaching, and lecturing. He has published and been involved with several genealogical and heritage organizations. He specializes in American Military records and research, especially the Civil War, general American research, research in the Old South, Colonial America (particularly Virginia), Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, and Germany.
The Program Committee is planning summer workshops and our programs for autumn and beyond, to include a presentation centered on the 250th birthday of the United States. They will be announced as they are confirmed.
What did you miss? On March 9 Suzanne Young Brayer discussed “Making Sense of the Census.” We learned about the population census as well as other schedules, such as the agricultural census, variations in data collected over the years, what census data can tell us, the types of surprising information found there and more! I am sure we will all be more informed users of this great source of information on our ancestors.
The Tips, Tricks, and Tales presentation was given by member Marilyn Kinnie who shared the story of her ancestor, Robert Beheathland, his relationship to Captain John Smith, and the hardships they endured at Jamestown, the first permanent British settlement in North America.
Genealogy Detectives can assist members on starting their research or help when they are “stuck.” Sometimes it is just a matter of getting organized or getting assistance on where or how to start searching for your family. The Genealogy Detectives can help jump-start your search. This is a member-only benefit and is a great reason to join PCGC.
Visit our website at pebblecreekgenealogy.club for more information about PCGC. General information is open to all site visitors with additional content (including Genealogy Detectives) available to members only. This is another member benefit and another great reason to join PCGC.
Questions? Contact President Vicky Ferraresi at presidentpcgenclub@gmail.com about the PCGC.
