On Feb. 5, more than 200 members and guests gathered to hear two exceptional candidates. First to speak was Kimberly Yee who is running for Superintendent of Schools. Born and raised in Arizona in a family of small business owners and public-school educators, Kimberly went on to serve in the state legislature where in the ’90s she helped draft Arizona’s earliest school choice laws, advised two GOP governors on education policy, and later served as chair of the Senate Education Committee, sponsoring legislation to expand Empowerment Scholarship Accounts programs and access for low-income families. Her goals are to deliver better student outcomes and greater opportunities for all Arizona students, engage more with families and protect every Arizona student’s right to educational freedom in an environment best customized for their success. She stressed that our children need to be taught financial literacy and to be prepared for careers and trades so they may go on to lead productive and fulfilling lives.
Our next speaker, Rodney Glassman, is running for Attorney General (AG). The job of the Attorney General is to protect the rights of all the people of Arizona, especially our children’s right to school choice. Rodney said that law enforcement needs leadership. He reminded us that the Attorney General is the most powerful elected office in the state and is the only one who can protect law enforcement, individual property rights, our children, and our legislature. He stressed that we need to elect an AG who is an experienced attorney with a proven track record because the AG oversees 400 attorneys within that office. No state agencies in Arizona have their own attorneys. The Attorney General is the top cop for all parts of government, the public, the schools, and more. His three goals are to withdraw Arizona from partisan lawsuits, to protect Arizona from any legislative bad ideas while promoting good ones, and to focus on protecting police, families, and our state from drug cartels and criminals. Rodney is the only Republican candidate who was a prosecutor. He has the endorsement of Sheriff Jerry Sheridan.
