Our first contest for our Trap Shooters was a Turkey Shoot in November at the Ben Avery Shooting Range. For every three clays in a row that you break you get one ticket put in a jar. (Like in bowling, when every three strikes in a row is called a Turkey.) We had a big jar full of tickets at the end of one round of shooting!
This contest was originally scheduled the week before anyone purchased Turkey Day food but got rained out with some fabulous storms!
First place was Joanne Pollock who won the young, never-frozen, turkey. It was frozen and saved for their family Christmas dinner.
Second place was originally Jerry Younker who won a Costco pumpkin pie, but because he had just bought one the day before, drew another name, Mitch Counce, as the winner, and he LOVES pumpkin pie!
Third place was for a pair of cornish game hens that were already frozen so Ted Blaine and his wife planned to enjoy them after Thanksgiving.
Facing off for another beautiful day to shoot at the Joe Foss Shooting Complex in Buckeye we ended our pistol/rifle range time with a favorite Poker Shoot Contest. Each player puts in $3 and gets to shoot at the backside of a random deck of cards with 7 rounds. (Sometimes it takes more than 7 rounds to get an actual SEVEN holes in the backs of the cards, but we are a patient group.)
Some of those rounds (holes) break an extra card or two but you pick the ONE card out of that break to help you with 5 total cards for your Poker Hand.
Sometimes you have … well … you have a handful of NOTHING to win anything. (That’s been my Poker Shoot hand for the last 4 shoots)!
Some shooters have just enough to win something. That’s all it takes. The play of the day with the extra card for the win. We split the winnings in two. First place was Bob Adkins who is a Wile E. Coyote of a shooter and had three of a kind for the big win! Second place was split by two Crafty Octogenarians who each had two pair of Kings. Tom Gallob and Rollin Neumann.
Congratulations all you Shifty Shooters!
