Finding comfort after the loss of a loved one may seem impossible, but in this community we are fortunate to have groups to help us along the way. It can be days, months, or even years after a loss that one can find themselves still lost or hurting.
GriefShare is a nationally recognized group providing assistance and companionship in the process of dealing with grief. A GriefShare group is a welcoming place where individuals can safely discuss the emotions of grief. The national website, griefshare.org, tells us there are no neat orderly stages of grief. It is unpredictable but there are ways of learning to cope with your feelings with solid support from a caring, sharing group. Ignoring or rushing processing of your feelings can affect your healing path. There is no “right way” to grieve. Over 1 million people have found hope and healing through GriefShare.
This January, PebbleCreek Community Church (PCCC) will be offering two GriefShare groups under Pastor Nate’s leadership. The first will be led by Nancy Duncanson and Carolyn Koberg, both of whom are experienced GriefShare leaders. This group will meet on Tuesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m., beginning on Jan. 20 and running for 13 weeks. The second group will be led by Pastor Nate, and will meet on Thursdays from 2 to 3:30 p.m., beginning on Jan. 22 and running for 13 weeks. All sessions will meet in Robson Reserve, in the elevator–accessible, third floor Game Room.
Sign up at griefshare.org. Look for: “Find a GriefShare Support Group,” click on “In-person.” Type in our location: Goodyear, AZ 85395. Find PebbleCreek Community Church and click on the day/group you want. You will be directed to a page where you will see the contact person for the group, topics for each week. and that it is FREE. Click “register for this group” and your registration is complete.
If you are grieving or caring for one who is bereaved, consider joining a group. Know that support will be unique to you right now and to your group members. By taking this step, it is possible to feel comfort and hope in the coming days.
