Glass Arts Spotlight

Barbara Sanford and Steve Nathan

Kitty Kowalczyk

Those of you who shopped in the Glass Arts Gallery at the 2025 Holiday Fest may have wondered who Santa and his helper were, but any glass enthusiast would have been able to tell you that Santa was none other than Steve Nathan, and his helper, Barbara Sanford. Both Barbara and Steve have been Glass Club members since the beginning when they worked with stained glass and then transitioned to fused glass as it became popular. Today we love working with fused glass turning glass into functional or decorative pieces, or both, and we know we can always count on both Steve and Barbara to help us along with suggestions on how to achieve the look we’re envisioning, and to help us troubleshoot possible problems with our techniques.

We know that one or both of them are in the studio every morning willing to answer our questions, offer suggestions, and help us load and program the kilns. They have both served on the Glass Arts board in the past in different capacities and know the studio inside and out. We are truly lucky that they both so enjoy what they do that they continue to practice the art of glass and are willing to teach the rest of us!

We have had a few inquiries in the past couple of years from residents wanting to know if we offered stained glass classes, and at this point we don’t. We hope that will change once the Creative Arts Center realizes the expansion and we have more room. For now, we offer Beginning Fused Glass Classes three times a year with the next one coming up in February, so look for announcements on the PebbleCreek Facebook page and egroup around midJanuary if fused glass interests you!
