January Carver of the Month: Tom Wick

Jim Brown

The PebbleCreek Woodcarvers Carver of the Month for January 2026 is Tom Wick. Tom is a long time PebbleCreek resident and member of the Woodcarving Club. Tom has held many of the officer positions in the club, was a longtime instructor of the beginning woodcarver class and has taught many carving classes. One of Tom’s interests is collecting Southwest art, with the primary subject being the Kachina. A year ago Tom undertook the project of carving the Kachinas that were the subject of his art pieces. That totaled 12 Kachinas, and Tom recently finished number 12.

In addition to being an accomplished carver, Tom has refined his painting skills. This adds to the overall effect that Tom has been able to create with his carvings. Tom has become the “go to” resource for painting questions and pointers on how to achieve a particular effect.

Tom is an active member of the Hiking Club and one frequently sees Tom in this publication as having participated in those activities. For the past few years Tom has taught a Santa carving class, however, this January Tom is instructing a Kachina Class. This class is open to carvers of the intermediate skill level. We are hoping to distribute his carving abilities to other members of the club.

Please join me in congratulating Tom on this welldeserved recognition.
