Marty Johnson enjoys the celebration of his hole-in-one
Howie Tiger
On Oct. 3, Marty Johnson made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole of the Tuscany Falls East course. This was Marty’s second career hole-in-one! He made it while playing in the “Crew” golf group.
The 17th hole was playing 123 yards from the white tees to a front-pin position. Marty’s playing partners were Terry Kay, Merrick Blumenthal, and Monte Morgan. Marty hit first as his partners were busy posting their score from the prior hole. He hit his 9-iron with a reasonable trajectory right at the hole. He did not see it go in, but he had a pretty good inkling that it went in. He checked through his rangefinder and did not see his ball.
As the foursome approached the green they only saw one ball on the green which was clearly Monte’s shot as Merrick and Terry had missed the green. Monte asked Marty where he was and Marty coyly pointed at the hole. Monte asked, “It went in?” Marty said, “Yep!” The high fives and fist bumps commenced. Terry then yelled back to the guys on the tee (other members of the Crew) about the ace!
This was Marty’s 2nd hole-in-one in 53 years playing golf. His first came in the ’80s at a 9-hole course in Lincoln, Neb.
Marty was born and raised in Ogallala, Neb. Marty graduated from the University of Nebraska–Omaha (UNO) with a business degree. Other than golf, Marty enjoys trap shooting. In fact, at the high school level, he was the state champion.
While in high school and college, Marty had worked at the Ogallala CC and the Omaha CC doing greenskeeper work. After graduating from UNO, he served as Golf Course Superintendent at the Ogallala CC for three years. He then started his career in the Insurance business as an Underwriter in the Life/Health field working for several different entities. He finished his 39-year insurance career at Mutual of Omaha serving as Senior Vice President of Life/Health Underwriting.
Marty and his wife, Betty, moved from Lincoln, Neb., to PebbleCreek in 2020. Betty is also active in golf as she is currently the president of the PC9LGA.
Congrats on a terrific shot!
