PC Gun Club—Let the Fun Begin!

Arty Bartlett

In our first week of the season (November), we hit the ground running.

It was a perfect day for a Club Picnic on Sunday, Nov. 2, held at Sunrise Park. We ate, we laughed, we played corn hole and bocce ball. We had a little corn hole competition where we laughed some more and the winners left with prizes. It was a great kickoff with 45 to 50 members.

Nov. 3 was a Meet & Greet meeting in the Chianti Room where we held a brief meeting and caught up on the state of the club and what competitions were planned out for the year. Afterward we enjoyed some Q & A time about the club and caught up on what everyone did all summer.

Nov. 4 was our first Club Trap & Skeet shoot with about 17 members on two trap fields. It was another beautiful day. The fields at Ben Avery are in excellent shape and so are most of our shooters!

Our first contest was, of course, the Turkey Shoot on Nov. 18 with first prize a turkey, 2nd prize a Costco pumpkin pie, and 3rd place a cornish game hen.

Our first Pistol/Rifle shoot was Nov. 7 and the weather again, couldn’t have been better. We are back at our beloved Joe Foss Shooting Range since it reopened this year. The City of Buckeye is managing it now and it is in great shape with lots of plans to expand. The staff are friendly and very accommodating to our club, which kind of took over the Main Range with 25 members that day.

We have a variety of targets for the club to choose from being either a standard Splatterburst type bullseye or Game Targets like Tic Tac Toe, Battleship, Darts, Billiards, or a new one called Dot Torture. It is for those serious in honing their gun handling and target skills!

One of our newer members started the day not hitting any of the targets to being a ‘Dead-eye’ before we left! Our members are really good at coaching/training and refreshing those shooting skills for those who ask.

We ended with our now famous Poker Shoot, which we do once a month.

Shoot 7 rounds into the back of the target and you choose the best five cards for your hand. Winner takes the pot!
