PCM9GA Announces Results of Goofy Golf Tournament

Erv Stein

Our PebbleCreek Men’s Nine-Hole Golf Association (PCM9GA) has invariably operated as a lowstress, funloving group and conducts approximately 48 to 50 typically exciting and intriguing tournament events annually. The vast majority of our events are based upon accepted worldwide and American Golf Association (AGA) sanctioned formats. Our most creative and imaginative Director of Golfing Operations, Ray Clements, along with his excellent pairing team conducted a truly “Off the Wall” Goofy Golf Tournament event featuring unimaginable challenges for each and every hole. The Goofy Golf event was conducted on Thursday, Sept. 11, at the back nine of Tuscany West in a shotgun format that utilized the best team members shot for each hole from the initial opening drive to the final putt. That being said, the following description of the format and rules for each of the 9 holes played while highly amusing, appeared to be quite a seemingly most difficult to accomplish challenge initially.

Hole 10: Water filled bottles as tees

Hole 11: Sand trap tee off

Hole 12: Worst shot used for each stroke

Hole 13: Hole surrounded by Hula Hoop

Hole 14: LH and RH Golfers used opposite side driver clubs

Hole 15: Entire hole with just one club

Hole 16: Teed off from cones behind sand traps

Hole 17: 3 cones blocking line of sight putt to hole

Hole 18: Toilet seat obscuring shot into hole

In spite of some degree of initial confusion and bedlam for some astonished golfers, the scoring results were remarkably quite good and the net team scores for the winning and last place team ranged from 31 to 37, quite incredible to say the least. Congratulations to the first-place team consisting of Richard Baker, Bob Brett, and Gregory Strike for their winning net score of 31. Further notable and really astonishing is the Horizontal Tee Shot where Peter Herman surely subjected himself to great risk in serving as the Human Tee for Guy DeCosterd.

Kudos to our prize-winning teams as follows:

1st: Richard Baker, Bob Brett, and Gregory Striker, 31

2nd: Peter Rossick, Kevin Wescott, Keith Stumpp, and Neil Kelly, 32

3rd: Guy DeCosterd, Peter Herman, Kerry Walsh, and Richard Fulton, 32

Following the event, we were all treated to an excellent barbeque brunch at the Oasis Pool consisting of juicy hotdogs and sides. Everyone who participated agreed that this event, with the wacky rules and obstacles, was loads of fun. Randy Vieck did his usual great job in pairing, and the other team members who made this event a great success are to be commended for their efforts.

Our funfilled events continued with the Sept. 25 “Beat the Pros” event followed by our off-site Verrado and Coyote Lakes events on Oct. 2 and Oct. 24. We highly encourage interested prospective PCM9GA members to contact our membership chairman, Dusty Howard, at 805-218-6461.
