The PebbleCreek Genealogy Club (PCGC) next meets on Monday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m.
PCGC meets the second Monday of each month in the Palm Room in the Eagle’s Nest Clubhouse from 9 a.m. to noon. Guests are always welcome!
Suzanne Young Brayer will present “The Mayflower: An Interesting Mix of Passengers.” Ms. Brayer is an educator, historical researcher, and avid genealogist with more than 30 years’ experience. She earned a B.A. and M.A. in history from ASU. Her involvement in researching her family began when she began working with her father, discovering Mayflower ancestors, Revolutionary War patriots and a few criminals along the way. She, like most of us, represents the “melting pot” of American culture.
Ms. Brayer has held numerous positions in the Family History Society of Arizona and the Arizona Genealogical Advisory Board. She is a ProGen graduate, and a member of The Arizona Council of Professional Genealogists, NGS, and DAR.
Coming up.
* Dec. 8: Potluck at the Oasis Pool to share holiday food, memories and traditions and maybe a visit from Santa!
* Jan. 12: “Immigration to the US” by Amy Urman
* Febr. 9: “Loves Labour’s—Finding Female Ancestry” by Janna Larson
* March 9: “Census Records” by Suzanne Brayer
* April 13: “Making the Most of Newspaper Research” by Dave Gaboury
* May 11: “Genealogy in Chaos: Getting and Staying Organized” by Robert Wilbanks
What did you miss? In October Janna Larson discussed “Using Probate Records for Genealogical Research.” It was insightful to learn how these important records could provide so much detail on our ancestors.
The field trip to the West Valley Genealogical Society Library was a great introduction to the organization. Members had a tour of the facility and then we used all their fantastic resources.
The Nominating Committee (Donna Payne, Kathy Koch, and Emma Mosley) will present the slate of candidates for President, Vice-President, and Treasurer. Voting will be conducted by mail with the new officers sworn in at the December meeting.
On the social front: The PCGC has formed a Mahjong Group for members. Everyone enjoyed learning California Mahjong (it’s easy, especially if you play Gin Rummy, and does not use a card). Contact Vicky at viferra@outlook.com if interested in playing this fun game.
Monthly luncheons continue to be held on alternating Mondays and Thursdays.
Genealogy Detectives can assist members on starting their research or help when they are “stuck.” Sometimes it is just a matter of getting organized or getting assistance on where or how to start searching for your family. The Genealogy Detectives can help jumpstart your search.
Visit our website at pebblecreekgenealogy.club for more information about PCGC. General information is open to all site visitors with additional content (including Genealogy Detectives) available to members only. This is another member benefit and another great reason to join PCGC.
Questions about the PCGC? Contact Marcia Wallick at Marsha mlwallick@gmail.com.
Hope to see you as we learn more about discovering our families!
