The Oct. 8 meeting was a singular event beginning first with about 90 members having a chance to explore seven artists’ offerings organized by Social Director Shelly Carnevale. Pottery, jewelry, scarves, pumpkins, and glass sculptures were on display and for sale in the club’s first ever Mistletoe Market, designed to introduce club members to the talents of its artistic members. This happened before the program and members strolled around the display tables with a glass of wine courtesy of donor Donna Strand, and desserts from the committee of Susan Sands and Mary Ann Fusco.
President Ken Minichiello began the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. The program commenced with videos of four Italian explorers, courtesy of David Carnevale. Vice President Bob Marchese interspersed comments on Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Giovanni Verrazano, and John Cabot, nee Giovanni Caboto. North America was once thought to be Asia by Columbus. Pop-quiz: the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City is named after which explorer?
The evening ended with wine and more desserts, including beautiful marzipan. This month’s meeting is on Nov. 12, and the program will be an entertaining evening of DJ Bingo. Prizes will be awarded.
If you would like to become a member, you do not have to be of Italian descent, and please see the website pciacaz.org or call club president Ken Minichiello at 419-356-4040. Ciao!
