On Sept. 19, the PebbleCreek Billiards Club (PCBC) hosted CantaMia (CM) for an 8-ball competition at PebbleCreek’s Salerno Billiards Room, featuring two matches.
The first match was a one-on-one series, with each of PCBC’s four players facing CM’s four players twice, for a total of 32 games. CM took an early 7-2 lead and never looked back, securing a 19-13 win. CM’s Jeff Satterthwaite led all players with six wins out of eight games, while Dan Harris and Lynn Warren led PCBC, each winning four games. One highlight was Harris pocketing the 8-ball on his break shot in one of the games.
The second match paired players based on their first-match performance for three standard 8-ball games, totaling 12 games. PC jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but after some suspenseful back-and-forth, the match ended in a 6-6 tie, leading to a one-game playoff between Dan Harris and Jeff Satterthwaite. Harris won the lag and broke, but no balls were pocketed. Satterthwaite sank all seven striped balls but faced a blocked cue ball on the 8-ball shot. His bank shot attempt resulted in a foul, giving Harris ball-in-hand. Harris attempted a challenging-but-makeable cut shot on the orange 5-ball in the side pocket, but missed narrowly, allowing Satterthwaite to sink the 8-ball and clinch the match for CantaMia.
Both clubs enjoyed the friendly competition and look forward to their match next month.
