Unit Happenings – October 2025

Unit 8 Ladies Having a Great Time

Alisa Moore

The ladies of Unit 8 always have a great time at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, where we enjoy great salads and pizzas, terrific service, and the company of friends. One of the highlights, of course, is the inclusion of the world-famous Pizookiea warm cookie with ice cream that caps off such a fun excursion. For anyone in Unit 8 interested in joining us, please contact Jane Holdcroft at JKH2125@aol.com. We would love to include you, whether you are a full- or part-time resident.

Unit 20 Ladies’ Lunch

Peggy Pase

Some brave unit 20 ladies met at Macayo’s on a 112degree August day to enjoy lunch together. The restaurant offered delicious senior menu selections and lunch specials, and it was fun getting out and seeing each other. Looking forward to next month!

Unit 44 Chills Out in August

Jean Harris

Unit 44’s first social event of the post-summer season kicked off on Aug. 24 at the home of Dan and Jean Harris. Neighbors and FUN friends (Friends of Unit 44) enjoyed cool treats of grasshopper ice cream shots and scoops of various ice cream flavors, topped off with cookies, brownies, and various toppings. The cherry on top was getting together and sharing summer travel stories.

Unit 44’s Debbie Baron Celebrates With Friends

Jean Harris

Debbie Baron of Unit 44 delighted in an early surprise dinner celebration with neighbors Deborah Crabtree, Gwen DeBernardi, and Jean Harris in mid-August. The group beat the heat indoors at the Wigwam Bar and Grill. Happy birthday to our young-at-heart neighbor who brings us all joy!

Unit 44 Unbelievably Sticks Together

Jean Harris

Unit 44 neighbors like spending time together! This fact was evident this summer for Frank Gorski’s Fabulous Chicago City Tour in early August. After a few days together, the group disbanded for other travels and yet somehow unbelievably managed to regroup in Lake Geneva, Wis., for separate boat tours. Fun and laughter continue to bless us in Unit 44! Our travel group included the Arpan-Hayners, Crabtrees, Harriss, Hoff’s, and Gorski’s. Other neighbors flung across the country to relax in cooler temps for the summer and we are starting to welcome them all back for more fun in the Arizona sun.

Competing in the very first Unit 46 Game Night Bunco activity were, standing L to R: Kim Bruce, Desiree Levy, Jackie Knox, Jacki McAfee, Susan Gildea, Dennis Gildea, Vicky Ferraresi, JungSuk Mallen, Warren Mallen, Carey Early, Kelley Rogers, Bette DeGraw, Hank Jones, and sitting/kneeling L to R: Dawn Razem, Spike Razem, Tammy Carnahan.

Unit 46’s Very First Game Night: Bunco!

Spike Razem

Because of our new official PebbleCreek “club” status, the Unit 46 Neighborhood Group had rights to the Tuscany Capri Room on Aug. 22, and enjoyed a Game Night featuring Bunco.

Nineteen residents attended, seating four tables of four people, and three people playing billiards.

As many know, Bunco is an easy-to-learn, fun game that features rolling three dice and hoping for a “Bunco” or “Mini-Bunco” to get their team to a winning 21 points. The winning team stays, and the losing team moves to another table. It was a very  fun social activity that includes a lot of groans for bad rolls, and several shouts of joy (i.e., “BUNCO!”) for winning rolls. Of course once someone rolled a Bunco and shouted accordingly, they were greeted with a squishy ball thrown at them to celebrate.

A big “Thank You” goes to Carey Early who organized this enjoyable evening for our Unit residents. We played a total of 12 games and prizes were awarded. Vicky Ferraresi, who played Bunco for the very first time, finished with a 10-2 record to be the big prize winner. JungSuk Mallen was a prize winner for most Bunco’s/Mini-Bunco’s. And, Kim Bruce displayed an “L” in the photo for unfortunately losing the most games, but still won a prizeHooray!

Unit 46 plans to continue the monthly Game Nights on the third Friday of each month. And if future events are anything like our initial experience, it should be lots of smiles and laughs for all involved.

The fun and games keep going strong in Unit 46!

Unit 49A Ladies’ Lunch at Westwind Tavern

Robin Macik

On Sept. 9, 18 ladies from Unit 49A gathered together for lunch in the Westwind Tavern’s Boardroom. Everyone had a great time and shared a little Bee’s Friendship saying. The ladies had such a good time, it was decided this activity would be held every other month. Thank you to Carole Polley and Judy DeGeorge for organizing and a big shoutout to Sabrina, our server, who did an excellent job.

Unit 54 September Men’s Breakfast

Pictured from left are Steve Domholt, Jack Klepinger, Mike Strong, Peter Chimicles, Mike Hurst, Jack Fink, Brad Gray, and Clair Martin, who met in September for breakfast. All men of Unit 54 are welcome for some lively conversation. We meet monthly the first or second week of the month and occasionally for lunch.

Unit 57 Guys Getaway

Rick Johnson

The Unit 57 Guys Getaway group (at least those who were in town and available) enjoyed an outing in downtown Phoenix this past August. The evening began with an excellent dinner and drinks at The Arrogant Butcher steakhouse. After dessert, they strolled across the street to the Footprint Center stadium to view the Phoenix Mercury vs Indiana Fever WNBA basketball game. Arriving early enough to watch the warm-up and shoot-around, Robin Anderson (right) and Rick Johnson (left) were able to have brief but memorable conversations with both Caitlin and Sophie. The game itself was fast-paced and exciting, but despite the encouragement from the PebbleCreek fans, Indiana went down to a rousing defeat. Nevertheless, a good time was had by all. Stay tuned for the next Guys Getaway adventure!

Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast

Ed Raker

The Unit 58 Men’s Breakfast convened for their August session on Aug. 20, this time returning to the “mothership,” the friendly confines of Eagles Nest Restaurant. We all thank Charlie Hunt to step in, to count seats, count heads, and take care of our photography.

Our members are loyal participants, allowing us to have plenty to talk about, tease about, argue about, whisper about, and enjoy.

This month we welcomed back Ken Moorefield, who had been out of town for several months. There were rumors circulating about his absence, but reliable sources made it very likely that he was playing golf at courses far and wide up and down the eastern seaboard. Wouldn’t want that handicap to suffer from lack of practice, now would we.

Now that August is behind us and the temperatures begin to ease, we would expect tour numbers to grow larger and our fun to increase along with it.

Unit 61 August Ladies’ Lunch

On Aug. 13, 12 women of Unit 61 enjoyed great food, plenty of laughs, and good conversation at Oregano’s restaurant in Goodyear. It was a perfect get-together and a wonderful chance to relax, catch up, and simply enjoy each other’s company. Everyone left with full hearts (and stomachs!), and we are looking forward to the next luncheon.
