Poppy and Kona were rescued in May. Poppy (male dog) and Kona (female cat) lived with their mom and grandma in PebbleCreek. Their mom was the caregiver for their grandma. Mom did a good job of taking care of both Poppy and Kona, who were current on vaccines and were well known to the staff at their veterinary office.
Very tragically, Poppy and Kona’s mom unexpectedly passed away. Their grandma had to go immediately into a care facility, as her caregiver was gone. This left Poppy and Kona all alone in the house. The Pet Companions Club rescued them right away, and got them into foster-to-adopt homes. Unfortunately, we were unable to keep them together, but they both went to great homes. Poppy was quickly adopted, and we are finalizing Kona’s adoption shortly.
This rescue is a great example of why our club was created to begin with—to rescue animals in PebbleCreek whose owners are either no longer able to take care of them or have passed away. We have found that we need more people willing to provide temporary foster homes for both dogs and cats. Several of our dog fosters are snowbirds and are not available during the summer. And we simply don’t have cat fosters. This makes rescuing extremely challenging as we don’t have a shelter facility. If you can do short-term fostering, please contact Mary O’Neill at 425–870-9326. It’s a great way to occasionally have a pet in the house when you are done being a pet parent.
We use all donations to pay the veterinarian bills for our rescued cats and dogs. Poppy and Kona are exceptions, but most of our rescues need veterinary care. We have recently made it easier to donate to us by adding Zelle as an option. You can send us a donation through Zelle at pcpetcompanions@gmail.com, or send us a check by mail to The Pet Companions Club of PebbleCreek, PO Box 6106, Goodyear, AZ, 85338-0619.
