Singles Visit the MIM

Ellie Daly

The PebbleCreek Singles had the opportunity to explore a world of music at the Musical Instrument Museum (MIM), which opened in April 2010. It is the largest museum of its type in the world. The collection of over 15,000 musical instruments and associated objects includes examples from nearly 200 countries and territories representing every inhabited continent. Some larger countries such as the United States, Mexico, India, China, and Brazil have multiple displays with subsections for different types of ethnic, folk, and tribal music. There is memorabilia from around the world at the Musical Instrument Museum.

Upon arrival we were provided with an audio guide headset that allows us to explore the museum at our own pace and visit the galleries and exhibits of interest. We had prearranged a one-hour guided tour to get an overview before going out on our own.

The hour tour turned into a two-plus hours with our tour guide Chris. His extensive knowledge and stories of the instruments were fantastic. Our audio guide wasn’t necessary as Chris gave us a talking tour that was a cultural journey through geographical galleries, displays featuring world famous musicians, and interactive exhibits all focused on instruments.

Following our amazing tour we lunched at MIM’s Café Allegro, which features a rotating menu of delicious global cuisine.

After lunch everyone went in different directions to see more of what they were interested in for the next two hours.
