The Agua Fria High School District celebrated the grand opening of its sixth and newest campus, Goodyear High School, on Aug. 4.
District leadership, community partners, and project team members gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked a significant milestone in the District’s commitment to innovation and student success. The celebration also welcomed the inaugural freshman class of 2029.
Governing Board President Kristen Acton opened the event by highlighting the broader significance of the new campus. “This campus is the sixth comprehensive high school in the Agua Fria High School District, and represents more than new buildings and beautiful design. It represents progress. It represents vision. And most importantly, it represents an opportunity for every student who walks through these doors.”
Acton then addressed the inaugural class directly: “As we cut the ribbon, we embrace the Maverick Mindset : Be Inspired, Stay Invested. May every Maverick set meaningful goals, support one another with empathy and collaboration, and give back through acts of service. Goodyear High is more than a school; it’s a new legacy in motion.”
Spread across 55 acres, the Goodyear High School campus will serve more than 400 students in its first year. The school is designed to deliver a dynamic, personalized academic experience that prepares students for a variety of futures, whether that includes higher education, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, military service, or community leadership. With a focus on innovation, flexibility, and choice, Goodyear High empowers every student to chart their own unique path to success.
Principal Jason Linn also welcomed the Class of 2029, sharing words of inspiration and pride. “Today isn’t just the opening of a new building or school, it is the beginning of a brand new story. A story that you, our very first class of 9th graders, get to write,” said Linn. He added,
“You’re not just students at Goodyear High School. You are the founders. You are the ones who get to set the tone, build the culture, and start the traditions that will live on for years to come.”
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the new facilities and experience firsthand the transformative impact the school will have on students and the surrounding community.
