Camera Club Photo of the Month

“The Stalker” by John Mirro … an impressive picture of a Great Blue Heron stalking prey in Puget Sound; photo was taken with a Nikon D500, 300mm lens (equivalent), ISO 200, F5.6, 1/400 sec.

The photo of the month for June is a beautiful capture of a Great Blue Heron by club secretary John Mirro while vacationing on Puget Sound a few years ago. The image was captured on Washington’s Whidbey Island while the heron was hunting on the shoreline and was attempting to negotiate the slippery rocks to get to a better position. The image has excellent composition since the position of the wing, legs and implied motion tend to lead the viewer’s eye into the picture. This scene should look pretty refreshing to a reader in Goodyear experiencing summer in the desert.
