The PebbleCreek Irish American Club (PCIAC) awarded 14 scholarships to deserving high school students!
For two blue sky days in March, the PebbleCreek Irish American Club (PCIAC) hosted the 2025 Charitable Golf Tournament with 172 golfers and 60 putters decked out in their finest Irish green shirts, skorts, socks, and head gear. All this was possible thanks to co-chairs Greg Roth and Gary Magnuson and their 12-member golf committee: John Brown, Trudy Chambers, MIke D’Onofrio, Sandra Hand, Charlie Wiffen, Rhae Jean Magnuson, Ron Wanless, Jim Mille, and Brad Hansen.
Tournament sponsors, donors, and 32 hole-sponsors were key to our success—many thanks to each of them. The tournament Sponsors included American Wealth Advisers, RealtyONEGroup, Avondale Toyota, Golf Car Superstore, State Farm Insurance, PHX PRO REALTY. The tournament Donors included Desert Sage Landscape Management, PebbleCreek All Landscape, Nunez Painting Contractor, Bubba’s 33, Simpson Norton, Bella Luna Ristorante, Chase Salon, The Goodyear Mayor’s Office, and The Goodyear Fire Department Station #185.
Final tabulations showed $37,000 was raised for high school student scholarships and non-profit charitable giving including $1,000 to the Millennium High School Band for this year’s trip to Ireland.
2025 was the ninth year the PCIAC provided college scholarships to students from Millennium High School. The Scholarship Committee Chair, Mary Stehula, and committee members including Pat Cornett, Tim Coogan, Joan Fafoglia, Steve Fafoglia, Donna Merten, Barb Mussman, Lois Olson, and Ric Sarro interviewed 29 applicants from Millennium for one of 10
$2,000 PCIAC scholarships. As always, the quality of applicants was outstanding. It is always a privilege to meet the applicants and hear them relate their accomplishments and future goals. Committee members walked away with a true sense of confidence in the future as the applicants described their pathways to making a difference in the arts, sciences, and environment.
The committee met and selected 10 recipients. They and their families attended the April 8, PCIAC meeting. The 2025 PCIAC College Scholarship awardees are: Stryder Bateman, Maryn Calpin, Sienna Hart, Jacob Iniguez, Nicholas Lee, Boaz Maldonado, Erin Ortiz, Sara Prokosch, Eva Sanchez, and Ryann Whiting-Williams.
In addition, the PCIAC partnered with the Goodyear Rotary to select four high school students specifically seeking vocational/technical training/certification. PCIAC VP Pat Cornett worked with Dr. Betsy Hargrove from Rotary throughout this selection process identifying two students from Canyon View High School, one from Verrado High School and one from Estrella Falls High School, for the Vo-Tech PCIAC scholarships. Three of the students and their families attended the April 8 meeting where each recipient gave a presentation on their future goals and plans.
PCIAC members believe there is profound value in our commitment to supporting high school students through our scholarship program. We aren’t simply writing checks. When we invest in these bright young minds—we are investing in our collective future. Each scholarship represents our belief in their potential to create meaningful change. To each of the 14 recipients we say, we believe in your potential and are eager to see the unique contributions you will make to our world.
