Our community’s Senior to Senior Program has been a resounding success, fostering meaningful connections between 40 senior citizens and 40 high school seniors. Over the past year, participants have engaged in a variety of enriching activities designed to promote learning, community service, and intergenerational understanding. This program is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community, and we look forward to seeing its continued positive impact.
Key Activities
* Financial Literacy: Workshops focused on teaching high school seniors essential financial skills, such as budgeting and saving, were led by experienced financial advisors. These sessions equipped students with practical knowledge to navigate their financial futures.
* Read Across America: Celebrating the joy of reading, participants joined in activities inspired by Read Across America. This included reading sessions and discussions that highlighted the importance of literacy and cultural awareness. The event encouraged a love of reading and fostered a sense of community among participants.
* Performing Arts Productions: The group attended school performing arts productions, which provided a platform for cultural enrichment and appreciation. These events allowed seniors and students to share experiences and discuss the artistic and cultural significance of the performances.
* Community Service Activity: A community service project brought everyone together to give back to the community. This event not only helped those in need but also taught participants about the value of volunteerism and social responsibility.
These activities have had a profound impact on both the senior citizens and high school seniors involved. The program has created a supportive network that extends beyond traditional family and school structures, enriching the lives of all participants. It has also provided a unique opportunity for intergenerational learning and connection, bridging gaps between different age groups and fostering a sense of community.
Senior to Senior is a partnership program between The Rotary Club of Goodyear PebbleCreek and the Agua Fria Union High School District. To join, as a non-Rotarian, there is a $65 fee to help with food costs. Attendance on Sept. 4 is required and 80% attendance at the rest of the meetings is encouraged.
