The PebbleCreek Community Church (PCCC) recently welcomed Monica Finifrock, Foundation and Grants Manager of the Free Wheelchair Mission Organization, to speak at a worship service.
The Free Wheelchair Mission was founded in 2001 and has provided free wheelchairs to nearly 1.5 million people in 95 countries. The wheelchairs are made by 14 distribution partners in 13 countries for a cost of $96 each. An average of 172 wheelchairs are distributed every day. The Free Wheelchair Mission is the only nonprofit organization that manufactures and ships wheelchairs around the world.
One of the wheelchairs was on display during the service allowing the attendees to inspect the unique design and note its special features. The wheelchairs are designed to be used in all types of terrain and be maintained in areas where bicycles and motor scooters are a main source of transportation, thus making repairs readily available.
During her presentation Monica also shared a video about their mission. It was narrated by Don Schoendorfer, Founder and President of the organization. It conveyed how these free wheelchairs have significantly changed the lives of individuals with mobility issues. Many recipients have been able to leave their housebound situations for the very first time to attend school or obtain employment.
The Free Wheelchair Mission is just one of the many missions supported by the PCCC. Through donations from the PCCC Missions Fund and private individuals, we were able to fund 28 new wheelchairs for their March campaign. This number will be matched for a total of 56 new wheelchairs for well-deserving individuals. More information on this faith-based organization may be found at FreeWheelchairMission.org.
