Hole In One – April 2025

Congratulations to Jerry on his déjà vu hole-in-one!

Jerry Fox Makes His Second Career Hole-in-One at Tuscany Falls East

Howie Tiger

On Jan. 31, Jerry Fox made a hole-in-one on hole number 4 of the Tuscany Falls East course. This was his second hole-in-one in 14 months after playing golf for over 45 years.

When Jerry initially arrived at the 4th tee with his playing partners (Jerry Davis, Toru Yogi, and Tamiko Yogi), he watched Brad Guck, a friend in the group in front of him, hit a good shot, then make the putt for birdie.

The 4th hole was playing 135 yards from the white tee to a front-left pin position just over the sand trap. Jerry hit his 28-degree hybrid with a fairly high trajectory. He saw the ball land just right of the flagstick rolling to the left toward the hole. The ball then disappeared, but Jerry just thought it was close and went behind the hole. Jerry drove his cart toward the green. Not seeing his ball, his excitement built as he proceeded to drive behind the green to the 5th tee. That’s where he told Brad, “I got you on this hole!” Brad walked back to the green, looked in the hole, and said, “Way to go!” Congrats and high fives commenced with all!

It was déjà vu for Jerry as his first hole-in-one in November 2023 came on this same hole, with this same pin-placement, using this same club!

Jerry was born and raised in South Bend, Ind., and attended Mishawaka High School where he lettered four years in cross country running. He graduated from Indiana University with a business degree in accounting. He secured an accounting position with Ernst & Young, a “Big 8” accounting firm in their Fort Wayne, Ind., office where he worked for 10 years. He then became chief financial officer of the Journal Gazette Newspaper Company also located in Fort Wayne. He served in that position for 33 years until his retirement in 2014. Jerry and his wife, Barbara, moved to PebbleCreek that same year.

Tom Scheel celebrates his hole-in-one

Tom Scheel Makes the First Hole-in-One of the 2025 PCMGA Golf Season

Howie Tiger

On Feb. 13, Tom Scheel made a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at Eagles Nest. It was the first hole-in-one made during a PebbleCreek Men’s Golf Association (PCMGA) event in the 2025 golf season. As such, he now qualifies for the PCMGA annual hole-in-one prize. We may have to do some research, but Tom may be the first left-hander to make one during a PCMGA event.

The 17th hole was playing 142 yards from the blue tees to a left middle pin-placement. His playing partners were Rod Summers, Marc Olson, and Dean Gulsvig. As his teammates were deciding on what club to hit, Tom said, “I’ll be the guinea pig.” Tom hit his 8-iron with a high trajectory straight at the flagstick. His ball took one soft straight bounce and rolled right into the hole. Everyone saw it go in including the foursome behind them waiting to tee off. Lots of high fives!

Soon after Tom’s amazing shot, Dean hit his tee shot within 6 inches of the hole. So, in less than five minutes, there were almost two holes-in-one.

On the green as Tom removed his ball from the hole, Marc said,Nice guinea pig!”

This was Tom’s second career hole-in-one. His first came in 2012 at a course in Tulsa, Okla. He said it was a cold nasty day and the course was empty. So, he had a fairly cheap bar bill to cover. Tom has been playing golf for 58 years.

Tom was born and raised in Stillwater, Minn. He earned a business degree at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He lived most of his adult life in the central U.S. (Chicago, Dallas, and Minneapolis). He spent his career in the restaurant business with 19 years at Bennigans working his way up to Regional VP. Then, for 13 years, he was a Market Partner with Texas Roadhouse for the Upper Midwest territory.

Tom’s interests besides golf include pickleball, biking, hiking, and traveling. He retired in 2018 and moved to PebbleCreek with his wife of 45 years, Kim.

Congratulations to Tom for being the first PCMGA player to qualify for the 2025 annual prize. Last year we had eight winners, so Tom will be watching closely to see how many others he has to share it with.

Mikki Leach

Mikki Leach Gets First HIOStroke One!

Carole Schumacher

What a way to start a golf tournament! Mikki Leach got her first hole-in-one on Feb. 4 at Tuscany Falls West on hole number 3 at the beginning of the PCL9GA Member Guest Tournament.

Mikki, along with her playing partners Tina Dines, Betty Johnson, and Pam Minesky began their play on the 3rd hole with a shotgun start. The hole measured 105 yards so Mikki pulled her 8 iron to commence play on the first hole of the tournament. And then…

“We all saw the ball go in the hole. There was a bit of screaming,” Mikki said. “My playing partners were so wonderful! And of course, we celebrated with a drink!”

Mikki has been golfing on and off (mostly off) since 1984. Since moving to PebbleCreek five years ago with her husband, Sherman, she now plays multiple times every week. She is a member of the PCLGA and was playing as a guest in the nine-hole tournament. This was her first HIO!

Congratulations Mikki. Well done for the commencement of a tournament!
