Buckle Up for a Bumpy Ride as PC Players Present “Becky’s New Car”
Lori Adair
On March 11 through 15, PebbleCreekers can enjoy the comedic whims of a woman looking for excitement that leads to her living a double life to avoid the truth.
In Steven Dietz’s humorous play Becky’s New Car, housewife Becky Foster grapples with the tension between her mundane existence and her yearning for excitement. Despite a stable but monotonous life with her husband Joe and their adult son Chris, Becky’s world is upended when she is mistaken for a widow by Walter Flood, a wealthy and eccentric millionaire. This misunderstanding offers Becky a metaphorical “new car” in the form of a chance to reinvent her life, prompting her to explore a thrilling double life she never anticipated.
Dietz’s play explores familiar themes of infidelity and deception with a refreshing twist. Becky’s direct engagement with the audience adds a unique dynamic, making us complicit in her decisions. As Becky breaks the Fourth Wall by communicating directly with the audience, we are drawn into her world, helping her handle invoices and giving her input on her choices. We share a playful experience, becoming immersed in Becky’s story.

ShowTime Is Bringin’ the Rain!
Carrie Mataraza
ShowTime rehearsals have begun for one of the most loved musicals ever. Adapted from the 1952 movie Singin’ in the Rain, the stage musical went to Broadway in 1983 and comes to PebbleCreek’s stage March 31 through April 5.
It’s interesting that most of the songs in the show were written first, before there was a story or any idea of one. Arthur Freed wrote the lyrics with music by Nacio Herb Brown and then Freed had the idea to build a story around the back catalogs of the numbers they had already written.
Betty Comden and Adolph Green came in to create the story. They originally thought of building it around the show-stopper song “Singin’ in the Rain” with a singing cowboy. Eventually, after many tries at developing that plot, they decided to put the story into the Hollywood of the 1920s, depicting the transition from silent pictures to talkies. That transition was dramatic for some and traumatic for many as you’ll see, yet the show is a heartfelt, sweet comedy as well.
Bet by now, you are humming the title song … that’s how famous and iconic it has become. So stay tuned for more news and ticket sales next month, because I know you will want to be in the audience for this one.
PebbleCreek Singers Rehearsals Begin January 13
Diane Piehl
“A Festive Winter Night” is but a memory as the PC Singers’ thoughts turn to the spring concert. Rehearsals will begin Jan. 13, 2025. What will Director Jerry Drake have in store for the spring audiences? Surely some surprises and always fun with beautiful music!
We thank our community for always supporting the arts in PebbleCreek. We would be remiss not to acknowledge our awesome section leaders, who are very much appreciated for their hard work: Kathy Best and Patrice Cole, First Sopranos; Nancy Gustafson, Second Sopranos; Myra Saunders, Altos; Bev Griggs, Tenors, Basses, and Baritones.
The chorus welcomed new and returning members to the stage in December. Altos, Judi Alonzo, back to us after many years and Myra Saunders, again after travel time and in a different section; First Soprano Nancy Davis; Second Sopranos Patrice Chatterton and Mary Jo Wagner; and Altos Pat Glasmann and Judy Pendergast with us for the first time. It’s always a pleasure to add additional voices to our singing family!
If you have ever considered joining the chorus, now is the time to let us know. If you’re definitely interested in being part of the PC Singers, act now. Reach out to Virginia Baker at 623-248-6323 for more details. Be on stage with us for the spring concert.
PC Musicians Featured Artist, Patti Hall (in Her Own Words)
Patti Hall
As a native of the Pacific Northwest, I was ready for sunshine and palm trees. A visit to Arizona in 2012 turned into a permanent move. After living in the Phoenix area for years, I moved to PebbleCreek in 2019. What a great decision.
I’ve been a professional vocalist since my late teens. I remember singing in a bar before I was legal to be there, so they made me leave during the band breaks. After years of developing a career for a commercial real estate developer in Bellevue, Wash., I wanted to sing again.
I was ready to step behind the mike for some fun and a bit of money. What a contrast … business suit during the week, then the ripped jeans and leather jackets fronting a band on the weekends.
Back in those days, the attitude was pretty much “if you’re in a rock and roll band, you must be on drugs.” Nope. I just loved to sing. A producer in Nashville helped me do a professional production of some songs to “demo” to record companies. I was presented with some incredibly written songs to choose from and matched with top studio session players for the recordings. The result of those recordings was the release of my song “Waitin’ On a Train,” which ended up being nominated for three awards in 2007 (Adult Contemporary Song of the Year, Crossover Song (meaning it was played on Adult Contemporary, Country, and College Radio Stations). I won the “Breakthrough Country Artist of the Year” award.
The Ellensburg Rodeo in Washington is one of the biggest rodeos in the country. I formed a custom band that we called “Ruby Nevada” to play the elite annual “Gold Buckle Club” party. I did some further work in the historic Capitol Studios recording studio in LA. Those songs have yet to be released. I see that coming sometime in 2025.
For the Musicians Club “Burst of Music XXIV” I wanted to work with as many PC musicians as I could and I wanted to do it in a band format, rather than just focusing on me. Proudly I get the opportunity to play and sing with Gene Fioretti (keyboards, guitar, and background vocals), Steve Jensen (bass), Doug Harris (drums), Leslie Henson (background vocals), and Frankie Commans will be shredding lead guitar for us. Our band name is “The Wayward Snowbirds.” We’re working on some great classic rock tunes (Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Heart, Chicago, Blind Faith, and more) that we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoy playing them for you!”
