Our PCM9GA conducted our second annual Red-White and Blue Tournament on the morning of July 2 utilizing the front nine of our Eagle’s Nest Course. Even with so many of our snowbird members out of the area and it being right around the July 4 holiday weekend, we nevertheless had a total of 60 very eager and fun loving PCM9GA golfers participating. The ever common Scramble Tournament format was utilized which basically required all foursome team members to drive with their own ball for the first stroke. Thereafter, for each hole each team member proceeded to take their successive shots based upon the position of the best ball location through the final putt stroke.
Typically the competition is extremely tight but for this event as incredible as it may appear, the first place team came in with an outstanding net 33 while the next three teams tied with a net 35 and tiebreaking rules had to be deployed to determine the second and third place foursome winners. For this event there was no requirement for each team member to have at least one or two opening drives utilized in determining the final nine hole team score which further reduced any potential pressure for any team member.
Hats off to the first place foursome comprised of Bjarne Kaer, George Nagy, Bob Caldwell and Tom Bashwiner which came in with the super net 33 team score. Congratulations to all the winning foursomes and Closest to the Pin Winners as follows (listed by Rank, Team Score, and Winning Team Members)
First Place, 33, Bjarne Kaer, George Nagy, Bob Caldwell, and Tom Bashwiner
Second Place, 35, Paul Zuckerbrow, Charles Hendrickson, David Baseheart, and Erv Stein
Third Place, 35, Monte Page, Richard Schmidt, Don Burrows, and Lou Ceri
Closest to Pin Winners: George Nagy, Hal Merwald
We all tremendously enjoyed the highly amusing best July 4 Costume Contest in which four of our members which included Monti Page, Larry Gleason, Walt Hohlstein and Skip Gault participating all which came dressed in incredibly appropriate Independence Day shirts, hats and shorts. While the competition was quite close, in the end it was the awesome patriotic July 4 holiday shorts of Skip Gault which made the difference and Skip was declared the winner hands down or perhaps pants down and quite truly a Yankee Doodle Dandy and then some.
Our PCM9GA sizzling forthcoming summer and fall event schedule included our second PCM9GA-PCMGA Mixer Tournament conducted on July 23 and will be soon followed by our annual Summer Survivor Tournament on September 30.
As always, we highly urge new, interested members to join our fun loving group which welcomes golfers at all skill levels. The $50 annual cost includes dues for the AGA membership which is essential for handicap reporting.
