PebbleCreek Live On Stage – September 2024

Some of the cast members of A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol play with the odd assortment of everyday objects that will create sound effects for the musical.

ShowTime Gets Ready for the Holidays

Laurie Farquhar

Is it too early to sing “Deck the Halls” and think about the holiday season? Not for the cast and crew of ShowTime’s fall production who have started rehearsing a musical twist on a classic Dickens tale called A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol.

When the story of A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol opens, it’s Christmas Eve 1943 and a group of radio actors in Newark, N.J., are preparing a live broadcast of their own version of “A Christmas Carol.” To help them, they have brought in an aging Broadway star who has never performed on radio. But he has a devastating secret that threatens to derail their program. Can they overcome the ensuing chaos and mayhem? Will it be anything like the story written by Charles Dickens more than 100 years ago?

Like a traditional radio station from the World War II era, everything in A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol is live. Singers will harmonize in the commercials, a piano player will set the mood with background music, and of course, there will be a foley who takes everyday objects and creates live sound effects. What will he do with that punching bag or those coconuts?

A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol runs six nights from Monday, Nov. 18 to Saturday, Nov. 23, with all performances in the Renaissance Theater starting at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 a.m.

All tickets will be sold online through the HOA website. To get to the link to purchase tickets, go to the HOA website at pebblecreekhoa.org. You do not have to log onto the website. Just click on “Things to Do” and then scroll down to “Ticket Sales.” The link for the ShowTime production is about halfway down the page. VISA and MasterCard are accepted.

Laughter, chaos, heartbreak, and hope. That’s what you will experience when ShowTime presents A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol this November. What a fun way to kick off the holiday season in PebbleCreek!

PC Players would like to thank everyone for the enthusiastic response to the inaugural Murder Mystery dinner entitled “Murder in Sin City.” All tickets were sold during the very first day of ticket sales. We apologize to all who were shut out from obtaining tickets, but it was our intent to keep this a relatively small gathering so that everyone could participate in questioning the suspects and solving the mystery. Will there be more? Stay tuned.

PebbleCreek Singers Rehearsals Resume

Donna Swagger

If you’re walking through Tuscany Falls Clubhouse and hear the sound of Christmas music coming from the Renaissance Theater, it’s not your imagination working overtime. It’s the PC Singers practicing for their 2024 holiday concert! After a three-month break, the chorus will reconvene on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 2:30 p.m. in the theater for their first rehearsal of the new season.

At this time the choristers will get a “sneak preview” of the musical selections for the program and do a run-through of each number. Over the next three months, the Singers will “give it their all” as they dig into each piece of music to learn notes, rhythms, timing, dynamics, etc. To help with this process, the members will have weekly sectional practice, along with full-chorus rehearsal. They will also be equipped with recordings of part-dominant tracks (recordings of individual voice parts) that can be downloaded on the computer, enabling them to work on the music at home between regular practices. A topnotch performance is the signature of the PC Singers, and they will go above and beyond to maintain that status.

PebbleCreek residents, there is still time for you to join us! Call Virginia Baker at 623-248-6323 for more information, or pick up an application form at the club information center located across from the Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop.

Concert dates are Wednesday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 7. Watch for future PebbleCreek Post articles with information regarding ticket sales and other pertinent details!

Dance Fusion performs in many ShowTime musicals.

New Dance Classes

New tap and jazz classes are coming to PebbleCreek starting in October.

Whether you have studied dance in the past or are a beginner, these dance classes will be packed with lots of fun movement, upbeat music, and will be a great way to meet new people.

Dance is a wonderful way to stimulate your brain with pattern work. The movement helps your muscles and joints stay mobile and it may lower blood pressure, which helps the most important muscle of all—your heart.

There are performing classes and non-performing classes offered. You decide what suits you. You may have seen our performing dancers in one of ShowTime’s musicals. If you have always wanted to dance, now is the time to join. Dust off those tap and/or jazz shoes hiding in the back of your closet and come experience the joy of dance!

For more information about class days and times, please call PebbleCreek Choreographer Karyn Horst at 623-535-0587.
