Unit Happenings – July 2024

Unit 6 Mix and Mingle

Lila Carrick

On May 22, the ladies of Unit 6 gathered for a Mix and Mingle at the home of Lila Ubert Carrick. Everyone delighted in meeting and chatting with their neighbors while enjoying savory sacks, sweet treats, and a beverage. Beverly McCarthy, the Unit 6 Coordinator, led a discussion about possible upcoming events for Unit 6 that include: an afternoon for ladies at the Oasis Pool, a fashion show, a progressive dinner, a bar-b-que picnic, and an Oktoberfest celebration.

Unit 8 – Celebrating A Birthday!

Estelle Pilon was a long-time, very active resident of Unit 8 for many years. In May, Estelle turned 90 years old so the ladies of the unit gathered at Eagle’s Nest to share in her celebration! Estelle is now a resident of Estrella Estates, but she stays in close contact with her Unit 8 friends. Happy Birthday, Estelle!

Unit 8 May Ladies’ Luncheon

Alisa Moore

The ladies of Unit 8 selected Old Chicago Pizza for their May luncheon because the food is predictably great, the service friendly, and the surroundings very comfortable. If you live or are residing in Unit 8 and would like to join us for our monthly social luncheon, please contact Jane Holdcroft at [email protected].

Unit 20 May Ladies’ Lunch

Peggy Pase

The ladies of unit 20 met on May 15 at Bella Luna where they enjoyed delicious lunch specials and the company of neighbors. Thanks to Rosemary DeAngelo for hosting. We’re looking forward to our next gathering! (Photo by Peggy Pase)

Unit 33 Luncheon

Diane Walenda

Unit 33 enjoyed food and ambiance at BJ’s restaurant hosted by Diane Walenda and Loni Hutton. The group was smaller due to summer vacations, but better to welcome neighbors who recently moved  to our neighborhood. We welcomed Teresa Cook and Lexi Kiefer, who joined Diane and Loni with Carolyn Farley, Pat Ingalls, Deb Kautuskas, Jewel White, Katy Vidger, Linda Ciaco, and Donna Buell. Two gift certificates to BJ’s were raffled off to add to the enjoyment. Unit 33 looks forward to meeting more of our new neighbors in the upcoming months.

Unit 36 Events

Jan Frustaglia

Eagle’s Nest Restaurant provided excellent service for a luncheon and a breakfast meetup in May for Unit 36!  Fourteen gals met for lunch on May 20, and the men’s breakfast was held on May 22. In October, Unit 36 plans to have a big OctoberFEST Welcome Back Party.

Unit 44 Bunco Babes

Jean Harris

Unit 44’s Bunco ladies group met on May 15 at the home of Laurie Eickhorn. Our lovely hostess perfectly set the mood for the last Bunco night of spring, before our snowbirds and those traveling to beat the heat departed for summer. Laurie made a signature cocktail, Lemonade Prosecco Punch, and the ladies contributed snacks and desserts. The big winner was Deb Fahey, who was crowned until the next round. Fun was had by all!

Unit 44 Ladies’ Lunch

Jean Harris

Jean Merkel hosted a lovely lunch of salads and desserts for the ladies of Unit 44 on May 14. Still able to sit comfortably outside, the ladies caught up with each other before our snowbirds left and summer travels kicked in. Thanks to Jean M. and her neighbor Rochelle Zuckerbrow for making everyone feel at home and for the healthy fare.

Unit 44 Men Begin Monthly Lunches for the Summer

Dan Harris

The men of Unit 44, who gather for breakfast every month, stay active with outdoor pursuits year-round. However, during the summer, they prefer to complete their outdoor activities in the morning to avoid the intense heat. Thus, for the second consecutive year, they decided to switch their breakfasts to lunch from June through September. Their first lunch was held on June 5 at Big Buddha in Surprise. The food and conversation were excellent, and everyone was amazed at the generous portion sizes, with several members taking home to-go boxes. Pictured here (clockwise from lower left) are Scott Crabtree, Bob Adams, Wayne Thomas, Dan Harris (photographer), Larry Clark, Jack Campbell, Larry Weber, and Doug Kirkpatrick. Unit 46 Book Club

Vicky Ferraresi

Unit 46, PebbleCreek’s newest unit, has started a book club. They will meet once a month. The group has selected books through December of this year, and everyone is looking forward to reading books they might never have discovered themselves. It’s a perfect activity for these hot summer months! A special thank you to Susan Kopecky for leading the charge on this.

Elsewhere in the unit, a group of ladies is playing California Mahjong (a simplified version of British and Hong Kong Mahjong) once a week; no card required. A group playing Hand, Knee, and Foot will start soon, and pickleball players are organizing to play together.

We continue to have a Men’s Breakfast, Women’s Lunch, and Happy Hour every month. People continue to move in and we are busy welcoming them to PebbleCreek and all it has to offer.

Catching Up with Unit 49A

Robin Macik

Unit 49A continues to socialize each month. On April 7, more than 50 residents met up on the driveways of Frank and Donna Chop and Karen Peterson. Each resident brought along an appetizer or dessert to share, and each brought their own beverage. We said bye to those leaving for the summer and wished them a safe trip. On May 15, 20 of us met for breakfast at Eagle’s Nest. Service was very good, and even though their computers were down, they handled charging our homeowners cards quickly.

In June and July we don’t hold any socials since so many are snowbirds and others are traveling; however, we do continue our Bunco nights, which everyone always enjoys, especially when you win.

Unit 54 Ladies’ Lunch at Royal Jasmine

Barb Dunson

On May 16, 12 ladies in Unit 54 enjoyed lunch and conversation at Royal Jasmine Thai restaurant where, after some confusion at the hostess station, we were provided delicious meals of orange chicken, chicken pad thai, curry dishes, and many other great choices. In attendance were Sheri Spirek, Debi Strada, Pat Gray, Patty Vitale, Debbie White, Dalbir Sudan, Nancy Bartusch, Patty Klepinger, Julie Kemper, Cindy Hurst, Kathy Evans, and Barb Dunson. Monthly unit lunches are on hold until fall when unit ladies have returned from summer vacations.

Unit 62A Wizards

Toni Erickson

On May 15, Unit 62A showcased their trivia brilliance at Augie’s Sports Grill. The group gathered at 5:15 p.m. to order dinner (giving everyone a break from cooking) and enjoyed a couple of beverages to stimulate their brains for the trivia challenge. Their preparation paid off, as the team performed exceptionally well and secured second place overall. It was a fantastic evening filled with fun, camaraderie, and impressive knowledge. The wizards included Tom and Jackie MacKenzie, Elmer Greenbank, Judy Meservey, Julie Greenbank, Bruce Banks, Vic Coates, Jim Downey, Marilyn Coates, Lynn Banks, Janelle and Gary Watts, Barb Downey, Laurie Wyman, and Renee Fisher.

62A May Happy Hour

Toni Erickson

On May 30, from 5 to 7 p.m., residents of Unit 62A were greeted by Joanne and Jerry Wrout, the “hostesses with the mostest” for the evening. The event took place in their beautiful, spacious backyard overlooking the picturesque, refreshing pool. Despite the warmth, everyone enjoyed the outdoor setting. Approximately 30 neighbors attended and shared a wonderful evening together. This gathering marked the last in-home happy hour until October, as the summer months’ events will be held at the Oasis Pool. The men who adorned the inner patio were, from left to right, Charlie Newcomer, Tom MacKenzie, Mike Trapp (standing), Bruce Banks, Vic Coates, Bruce Brown, Paul Hull, Tom Bachmann, and John Geraghty.
