At a groundbreaking ceremony held May 16, the Agua Fria High School District Governing Board, alongside school and community leaders, broke ground at the site of the District’s newest high school. Amidst enthusiastic cheers from those in attendance, Goodyear High School, previously referred to as High School #6, its school colors of Kelly green and blue hues and mascot, home of the Mavericks, were unveiled.
“The campus is named after the vibrant city of Goodyear, renowned for its rich history, innovative spirit, and tight-knit community,” remarked Principal Jason Linn. “Our choice of mascot draws inspiration from the West Valley Mavericks, a nonprofit coalition of visionaries who donate their time, talent, and funds for the betterment of the West Valley. Their steadfast dedication to the community and pursuit of excellence aligns with the values we envision for our newest high school.”
“We are profoundly honored by the recognition of our organization’s mission and impact,” expressed Mark James, a representative of the Mavericks. “We eagerly anticipate watching Goodyear High School become a beacon of educational excellence, confident that it will carry forward our legacy by shaping the leaders of tomorrow.”
Located on the northwest corner of Cotton Lane and Van Buren, construction on the new high school has already begun. Goodyear High School is set to welcome its inaugural freshmen class in fall 2025.
