The Irish American Club’s Scholarship Committee selected and awarded eight students from Millennium High School with $2,250 scholarships each from the record number of 38 applicants who applied. A total of $18,000 was awarded in scholarship money this year, another record amount, thanks to the success of the club’s 15th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.
All eight students, accompanied by their parents and families, were at the April club meeting to speak about what the scholarship money meant to them. They spoke eloquently about how important family; faith, helping others, and being active in the community were to their success. Club members were inspired to hear from the students about their career goals, which included aeronautical engineer, anesthesiologist, pharmacist, conservation, speech therapist, cardiovascular sonographer, mechanical engineer, and a fighter pilot! The club’s scholarship committee described the process to award the scholarship funds as extremely rewarding.

The Irish American Club has a commitment to help our community thrive and grow. The club’s charitable giving began early in the club’s inception with home-hosted dinners, where members supplied food and cash donations for the Agua Fria Food Bank. In 2009 the club held their first charitable golf tournament. Over the history of the club, they have surpassed six figures in charitable giving to local nonprofits and Millennium High School Scholarships.
