For the past 3-plus years, a group of good friend pickleball players get together each Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. for some fun card playing games of poker. This weekly event is hosted by one of the six to eight players, involves chips of different values, and many different “dealer’s choice” card games.
On April 24, the event was expanded to two tables and graciously hosted by Randy Hurwitz. After feasting on a delicious lunch consisting of yummy sandwiches, ribs, spring rolls, salads, cookies, etc. Randy arranged the 15 attendees to participate in some very creative “games of skill and chance”: Drop the pennies into a plastic jug, flip a playing card into a bowl, bounce a pickleball into a moving basket, etc. Prizes were awarded to Jack Fink/Manny Laron (3rd place); Jon Peterson (2nd place); and Bob Funkhouser (1st place).
After that excitement subsided, 13 players got serious and proceeded to attack the two poker tables. Although the next three hours of card playing resulted in some winners and losers, the final assessment from all attendees was “a fun time was had by all.”
Thanks much to Randy (and wife, Barb) for a very enjoyable, memorable Wednesday afternoon with good friends in PebbleCreek.
