Tennis Club Happenings in April

Vikki Constable, Tournament Director

The Tennis Club had a busy second weekend in April with two events, signaling the end of the 2023-24 season for the membership.

On April 13, “A Late Afternoon with Tennis and Camaraderie” theme greeted the membership at Tuscany Falls courts with mixed men and women assigned to courts, according to ability. Tournament Director Vikki Constable greeted the members, along with members from PebbleCreek’s USTA Over 65 8.0 Women’s Team. The team, captained by Debbie Welsh, participated as a first year entry in the division, amongst the 15 women, who play on other PebbleCreek tennis teams. The team was responsible for the food portion, in addition to prep and post-work. The membership was quite grateful for the Tennis Board and Facilities Director, Rellen Jones, along with the USTA team sponsoring the last Tennis Social for the season, before many members returned to their summer residences.

The following day, April 14, 12 Tennis Club members drove to Sun City West at the R H Johnson Recreation Center for a friendly InterClub Doubles Play Event. Sun City West (SCW) Tennis Club greeted our members when arriving, with a photo by their Tennis Club photographer. That photo can be viewed in the glass case outside of the Tuscany Falls Sports Building, located at the tennis courts. Mens, Womens, and Mixed Doubles play was the central focus, as the afternoon was filled with different strength of calibers, athleticism, laughs, enjoying the food buffet made by their membership, and meeting new people in the West Valley. This was the second InterClub Exchange, with SCW membership driving to our location on Feb. 4.

It was a fitting weekend for the close to 300 Tennis Club members, as the Tennis Board takes a break from developing Tennis Socials and meetings. Look for the next Tennis Social to take place in September, with more events planned for the fall. The Men’s and Women’s Doubles Club Championships will be featured in November, and the committees meet during the summer to plan for the three levels of competition.

The general meetings are held the first Wednesday of the month (September through April) at 5 p.m. in the Tuscany Falls Sports Building. All members are invited to attend.
