A group from the Singles Club traveled to Sun City to their museum to learn about the history of the first senior community in the nation. They all thought the tour was very interesting. The group had a wonderful volunteer docent to give them the history of this community and let them tour the first house built more than 60 years ago. It was a small museum, but it was chock full of great memorabilia and tells the story of how this active retirement lifestyle began in 1960.
Del Webb started a venture along with his partner, Jim Boswell, which experts predicted would fail. Over 18 years 27,000 homes were built and sold. The tiny community was a success, and the corporation then started their second community, Sun City West. Webb’s vision changed the lives of millions of retirees and created a niche market that is alive and growing to this day.
The group enjoyed lunch afterward at Jalapeño Inferno, which is located at Park West.
