The Irish American Club hosted its Welcome Back Party on October 9. About 150 members enjoyed a delicious dinner of shepherd’s pie with green beans and a spring salad plus homemade soda bread and rolls. Dessert was a delightful piece of cheesecake. Everyone in the room raved about the meal! After dinner, award-winning songwriter and singer, Michael Littwin, entertained us with authentic Irish songs and ballads. He performed two songs which he wrote and the one that captured our heart was based on his grandmother calling him “darling child of my heart” when he was a little boy. The song was Alanna Mo Chroi which is Gaelic for that very phrase, darling child of my heart. It’s a story about his grandparents’ brave journey from Ireland to Ellis Island. They didn’t know each other on the ship; they actually met and fell in love in Chicago! The club thanks Terry Roth, Steve Kunkle, Sue Roth, Jan Kirk, Maureen Pugsley and Dee McKeown for making this a very successful party.
