Pet of the Month

Gretchen is locally famous

Hi! My name is Gretchen and I am a Keeshond. I live in Unit 64 with my parents, Barbara and Larry Magnusson.

I came to PebbleCreek in July 2016 from The Woodlands, TX. For most of the first seven years of my life, I lived in the Houston area with my roommate, Olivia (“Livy” – another Keeshond, but no relation). In early 2016, we were surrendered to a shelter because our mom could no longer care for us.

Not long after we arrived at the shelter, we were really lucky to be picked up by Cindy Tumiel of the Tri-State Keeshond Rescue organization. Livy went to live with Cindy and I went to live with Pamela and Bob Hibbetts. Cindy and Pam and Bob are great foster parents and took very good care of us. A few months after she came to live with Cindy, Livy was adopted and went to her forever home in the Dallas area.

Barb and Larry lost their previous dog, Ben, in 2014 (He was adopted from Tri-State Keeshond Rescue) and they had been looking to adopt a Keeshond when they found out I was available for adoption. They adopted me and came to Texas to get me. We had an interesting, but long, trip here from Texas. We had a nice visit with some friends in New Braunfels. I did not enjoy West Texas too much. It is hard to find a good tree there.

It did not take me long to start enjoying living in PebbleCreek. Good food, lots of treats and toys, a fenced back yard, at least one long walk a day, and lots of nice neighbors in Units 64 and 52. I really like to keep small birds out of our backyard, except for the quail. I enjoy watching them. I do not know if I would challenge a roadrunner, though. I love to ride in the car and am trying to get used to riding in the golf cart.

Unfortunately, my allergies are just as bad in Arizona as they were in Texas. Fortunately, Dr. Nancy Buczek and her staff at The Complete Pet Animal Hospital, and Dr. Anthea Schick and Dr. Samantha Lockwood and the staff at Dermatology for Animals take really good care of me.

Barb and Larry say I am “locally famous.” I am Miss June in the 2018 Keeshond Sunshine Rescue Foundation’s fundraiser calendar. Barb and Larry and I really appreciate the nomination. The calendar highlights the work of the rescuers, the foster families, and all those who believe in giving rescue dogs a chance for a forever family.

If you see us out, stop and say hi. I love to meet our fellow “Creekers.”
