It is no secret that many Creekers are active Mah Jongg enthusiasts. On March 12, 60 of them convened in the Tuscany Falls Chianti Room to compete in the ninth annual tournament. With Janet Day, president of the PC Recreational Mah Jongg Club and Alex Potapoff serving as co-directors and Alex serving as Tournament Arbitrator, the group played a total of 16 games.
Play was divided into two rounds of four timed games in the morning and two rounds of four games in the afternoon. Play was completed at 3:00 p.m. and after the scores were tabulated, the top ten places were announced. Four people tied for tenth place: Jane Schaffer, Jane Maretz, Carole Hanley and Marianne Roberts; Hermine Sulzberg was in ninth place; Mary Yates was in eighth place; Cheryl La Motta was in seventh place; Barb McFarlane was sixth place winner; Cheryl Skummer and Gail Weiner tied for fourth/fifth place; Geri McLindon and Terry Goldring tied for second/third place and Lil Wattenberg was the first place winner. First prize was $110.
Special thanks to Liz Gray for handling the catering and room set up with PebbleCreek staff and to all the people who volunteered their sets and tables.
Mark your calendars: next year the tournament will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016!
