The Rotary Golf Ball Drop by the Goodyear Fire Department
Jim Frey
The Rotary Club of Goodyear PebbleCreek announced plans for their Foundation’s Eighth Annual Charity Golf Ball Drop and Golf Tournament. The event will be held at the PebbleCreek Tuscany Falls Golf Club, 16222 Clubhouse Drive, Goodyear, Ariz., on Sunday, May 4. Registration will be from 7:30 to 7:45 a.m.; 7:45 a.m. golf ball drop; shotgun start at 8 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m.
The cost of a foursome will be $600; $160 individual fee, and includes golf, cart, lunch, and prizes. For those golfers who have golf packages at PebbleCreek, the cost is $85 ($340 for a foursome if all have golf packages) and includes golf, cart, and prizes. “We are limited to 144 golfers, and we consistently sell out, so anyone interested in playing in this charity tournament should get signed up as soon as possible,” said Jim Frey, chair of the event.
An exciting part of the event is the very popular golf ball drop. A total of 600 tickets are being sold for $20 each and the winning ticket receives $3,000. The 600 numbered golf balls will be dropped from a Goodyear Fire Department ladder truck onto the putting green, and the ball that goes in the hole (or is closest) wins $3,000. If more than one ball goes in the hole, the $3,000 will be split. The ball drop will happen at 7:45 a.m. on the putting green by the Tuscany Falls pro shop. The winner does not need to be present to win.
Avondale Toyota has agreed to be this year’s Main Event Sponsor once again. And every golfer will receive a golf glove courtesy of Avondale Toyota. “Avondale Toyota has always been a big sponsor, and we appreciate their continued support again this year,” said Jim Frey.
The proceeds from this event will be distributed to several organizations here in the West Valley. This event is the largest fundraiser for the Goodyear PebbleCreek Rotary Foundation, and, over the past six years, they have distributed over $385,000. Some of the local organizations who have recently received funds include Agua Fria Food Bank, Meals of Joy, HCSS, Arizona Service Project, Griffith Blue Heart, and Arizona Community Impact. Other organizations that have received funding include the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, the Navajo Health & Wellness Project, Polio Plus, Watts of Love, and Title 1 Students Clothing. The Agua Fria Elementary School District, the Litchfield Elementary School District, and the Agua Fria Union High School District have also received funds for several varied programs and projects.
