Mike Knaeble
Eagle’s Nest resident Mike Knaeble will ride 65 miles on his 65th birthday, Oct. 20, to raise funds for Juvenile Myositis research in honor of his granddaughter Macy.
Mike said that “Macy is an inspiration to me with her joy, her passion, and her love and compassion for others, putting them before herself. If she can fight the fight as she is, I can certainly ride farther than I ever have for her and other children afflicted with this disease!
Last year, Macy was diagnosed with Juvenile Myositis, a rare, degenerative childhood disease that causes a child’s own immune system to attack healthy tissue and cells. It can cause pain, weakness, inability to walk, disfigurement, and organ failure.
Juvenile Myositis can affect virtually any system of the body, the heart, lungs, skin, muscles, and more. And there is no cure, yet. That is why Mike is riding 65 miles for Macy on his Trek Marlin mountain bike. (He says he is too big of a wimp to ride on skinny road bike tires).
Watch for him on Sunday, Oct. 20 as he will ride in both Eagle’s Nest and Tuscany Falls. Some family members will join him for part of the ride and Macy may even attempt one-mile with him. He will be riding a bright orange Trek mountain bike with a Cure JM jersey on. A wave or word of encouragement will go a long way in his effort to ride the 65 miles.
If you would like to donate, you may go to www.crowdrise.com/o/en/65-miles-for-macy.
If you would like to ride with Mike for portions of the ride, the starting point will be in Eagle’s Nest in the lot near the clubhouse with a loop ride through Eagle’s Nest and Tuscany Falls around 11 miles round trip. So just six loops and he will meet his 65 Miles for Macy to Cure JM goal!
