The 2023 Arizona Golf Association State Medallion Tournament was held Jan. 15 at Oakwood Golf Course in Sun Lakes. Liz Mitchell and Cindy Sota represented PebbleCreek with Liz being the Gross PCLGA Champion and Cindy the Net PCLGA Champion.
“It was cold and it rained for the first 12 holes, but the course held up well, No Cart Path Only was invoked, and players could use the preferred lies rule,” said Cindy. “It was a 5-hour round, but we played with some lovely ladies from Alta Mesa and enjoyed our day with them.” The golf course is a Robson Community course and features many undulations and speedy greens.
Entrants in the State Medallion Club Tournament are the winners of the low gross and low net prizes for play during the previous year in their local club (PCLGA) where league members play up to four rounds throughout the year to compete for the honor of representing PebbleCreek at the State level. The State Tournament format is a two-person individual stroke play event with the team score being the total of the gross player’s gross score and the net player’s net score. The 2024 State Medallion Tournament will be hosted by Oakwood again.
Although Liz and Cindy finished in the middle of their flight, they were able to enjoy some awesome lasagna, chicken parmigiana, Caesar salad, and even cannoli for dessert as they warmed up after a chilly day on the course. “It was a real honor to represent PC as a participant, even if we didn’t win,” said Cindy.
