The PCLGA hosted the annual Seniors Tournament on February 23 and 24 on two beautiful sunny, warm days. This championship tournament is the one opportunity of the year to honor our senior players in the PCLGA. The theme of this year’s tournament, Oldies but Goodies, was chosen to make a connection between female singers who were popular during the younger years of most participants in the tournament. Records with the appearance of vinyl 45’s were used to decorate the tables in black and white. On the second day of the tournament, the ladies were asked to wear black and white to fit with the theme when TV was still black and white. The play was flighted by handicap and age. The categories of the flights were named after famous singers, Judy Garland (75 plus), Rosemary Clooney (70 to 74), Patti Page (65 to 69) and Connie Francis (under 65). Eighty percent of the field fell into the over 65 age category. The overall low gross and low net winners could only come from the over 65 flights pursuant to the PCLGA bylaws.

Highlights from the first day of the tournament were a hole-in-one by Becky Rio on hole number 4 of Tuscany Falls; Ruth Vohs had an eagle on hole number 6 of the Falls and Marilyn Williams shot her age. There were also some terrific scores shot the first day, with five scores under 80 gross. The tournament had an exciting finish on day two when three of the participants all tied for overall low net. Judy Newell, Lynda Bronzetti and Carol Wolf were all tied with a net score of 132 after two days of tournament play. They participated in a sudden death playoff on hole number 1 of Eagle’s Nest. Tournament co-chair Cheryl LaMotta stated that this was the first three-way tie in the Seniors Championship Tournament since her tenure with the PCLGA of 16 years. Judy Newell chipped in on the first playoff hole for a par winning low net. Lynda Bronzetti took first place gross and Carol Wolf first place net in flight 3. The overall winner of the tournament with low gross score of 158 was Barbara Patrow. Both Barbara and Judy received individual trophies, $100 each and their names engraved on a trophy displayed in the Eagle’s Nest Pro Shop.

Golfers enjoyed a delicious Italian buffet with chicken parmesan after play on Wednesday. All of the ladies over 75 received a long stemmed rose presented by the two youngest players from flight 4. Congratulations to all the winners. A special thanks to tournament co-chairs Cheryl LaMotta and Judy Hauser for their hard work and creativity in planning this successful event.

Winnings were paid three places for gross and net in Flights 1 and 4, six places in Flight 2 and seven places in Flight 3. First place winners in each flight are as follows:

Flight 1: (75 plus) low gross Marilyn Williams, low net Janell Jenson

Flight 3: (65 to 69) low gross Lynda Bronzetti, low net Carol Wolf
